Free Rangers?

I had to ask if anyone else has experienced this before. I am new to the game, I just recently purchased it (after trying the demo) and loaded it on my computer at work, where I play during lunch. I downloaded Stardock as well and used that to get the latest version of the game.

I am still playing my first game but have come across something that I find unusual. I am not that far into this game but have had several special "events" occur for me, the majority of which have been gaining a free Ranger class vessel. Actually, I have 5 now to be exact. Neither I or any other civilization are anywhere near the tech level needed to build these ourselves so you can imagine what a great advantage this has been for me so far.

What concerns me is that this is not just amazing luck but instead a bug of some kind. It would really ruin my fun in the game if every time I play I keep getting these great ships, there'd be no point, no challenge. Has anyone else experienced this?

It is not a bug, it happens, sometimes, not all the time, usually happens when you select the option luck at the start of the game in your settings. I always use luck, but not always I get the Ranger ship, usually I get them when other races already have Dreagnoughts and Avatar or even Overlords, so it depends on the game.

If you are looking for an empire to join, come on and join the Jedi Republic, the only empire really dedicated to Star wars Theme.

You're just lucky, Jarilon.

I can't remember the last time I've gotten a Ranger. Then again, I never take luck.

Ahh, that must be it then! I did select luck as one of my advantages at the beginning of the game. I just did not realize it would have such an effect, usually such things are very subtle. Thanks for your swift reply.

Also, forgive me for my newness to this very entertaining game, but what is all this business about empires and such? Does it have to do with the Metaverse at all?

Yes, if you check the Metaverse you will see 2 lists, one is the individual players list and the other one is the empires list. Every empire is composed of players who are affiliated with the respective topic of each empire and at the same time every point from each players helps the empire to go up or down in the list. Also you must noticed that the points in the individual list are usually higher than the points in the empire per player, so come on and join the Jedi republic. ;)

The chances of getting an early game ranger are so good, that I refuse to play a game without luck as a starting racial pick. The advantage of bringing a ranger when the rest of the galaxy is struggling to build battle hammers is amazing. It makes the early game so easy, it really isnt even fair.

I'm never gotten a ranger in 55 games.... though I occassionally find a corvette or two. 5 in a game is lucky! I wouldn't worry about it happening often....

i have gotten the 100 corvette events before, however it was pretty late in the game, so the 100 corvettes where useless even as recon ships.

Hairy...
u couldn't use them as tradebait?
The one time that happened to me was a trade bonanza with all the minors... :)

I realized that I also selected the Universalists as my party so that's even more luck involved. I played the game a little more today and found yet another Ranger (up to 6 now) and had one of my planets turn into a class 35 :) Seems like luck is pretty nice after all.

when i got them, all the minors were already gone, and i was fighting with the last AI, so i couldnt do too much with trade.

too bad i didnt get it near the start of a game, i could halt all AI colonization, all trade, and all ship development in a few turns.
