Fuck Geico!

And the Gecko they rode in on!

So Tuesday night I was in a car accident. Don't worry, for the one or two people that bother to read this, I was not hurt, but let me tell you what happened.

I was driving in the left most lane and there was this BFT (Big Fuckin Truck) in the lane to my right (the center lane). We approach an intersection with a green light. There is now a turn only lane on my left, and the other 3 lanes are straight only. This dick koosie to my right decides he needs to make a right turn, so without turning on a signal he proceeds to execute a left turn from the center lane, directly in front of me. He jacked up the front passenger fender, and headlight and door, and broke the struts on my front wheel, and he gets a scratch on his BFT, so my car is undriveable and his is, Whee!

Like I said no one was hurt. The cops came and issued the guy a ticket for making an illegal turn.

So I go home and I call my insurance (that guy the other guy had insurance as well), and report the claim. The next morning I call the other guy's insurance and report the accident to them. No problem right? Wrong! It appears that the guy that hit me was from out of town, and he decided to take his time reporting the claim to his ininsurance company. Geico sends out an adjuster, and the next afternoon I get a call from the adjuster telling me he had just finished looking over the car. I asked him if the repair shop had given an estimate on how long my car would be in the shop and he tells me that the garage hasn't started work on my car yet. This seems puzzeling to me and I said so out loud. It turns out that Geico won't authorize any repairs to my car until they hear from their customer. This sorta pisses me off, but I let it go. The next day I call up to find out if anything had been done, and shockingly enough nothing had. Their costomer still hasn't called to report the accident!!! Now I'm what you may call, irate! My car has been sitting around gathering dust for 2 days because Geico has TUA (thumb up ass). I ask Geico how long it will take before they will claim liability and get my car fixed and they tell me that their policy is to give their customer 10 working days to report the accident! Now im insensed!

Me: You mean my car could be sitting there for 2 weeks before the garage can even order parts, let along start effecting repairs?!

Geico: Yes sir, thats policy.

Me: I don't understand, why is that?

Geico: We have to hear our customer's side of the story before we decided whether or not we will claim liability.

Me: But the police issued him a ticket!

Geico: But all we have is your word on that.

Me: Ok, he is the police report number #########, and the officer's name that issued the ticket XXXXXX and her badge number ####.

Geico: Thank you sir, you had already given that to us earlier. It is still our policy not to claim liabilty until we have spoken to our client.

Me: So let me get this straight. If I call and make a claim that I was in an accident with your client and that it was your client's fault, and your client said that it was acutally my fault, but I don't have a police report, what happens?

Geico: The case would be taken to court and the judge would decide liabilty

Me: Ok so what happens if I say your client hit me, and your client agrees?

Geico: We would claim liabilty.

Me: And what if I said your client hit me, your client said I hit them, but the police report says that it was your clients fault.

Geico: We would claim liabilty.

Me: So it doesn't really matter what your client says, if I have a police report, you are going to claim liability right?

Geico: ... (long pause) it would appear so sir.

Me: Then get to work on my car! I have the police report saying your client is at fault!

Geico: I'm sorry sir, our policy states that we must ...

At this point I was beyond pissed off. This is quite possibly the most insanly stupid thing I've ever heard of!

Me: This is quite possibly the most insanly stupid thing I've ever heard of!

So now I have to wait for this ass hat to get off his ass and decide to claim the accident, or I can make a claim against my insurance and swallow a $500 deductable and get guys at the garage to start working on my car. Sure I'll get the $500 back when Geico claims responsibility, but I still need the $500 now...

Now in all honesty, I can't just blame Geico, this is how all insurance companies handle claims, but am I the only one that thinks that this is the stupidest thing?

Well you could always sue the guy for being an idiot and not reporting the accident causing you mental anguish and such...

You should look into Mercury Auto Insurance.

(Some knucklehead made a weblog here on JoeUser selling it.)

hahahahahahahahaha!!!! I can only hope that the next time I'm faced with an insanely stupid thing I have the "balls" to point it out like that.

BTW, I'm really really really glad you're ok.

Insurence= fast to take YOUR money, SLOW to pay out.. grrr insurence is nothing but legal blackhand protection.

As it turns out, my insurer is the one that is spoken of nastily in the article above. I wasn't aware they had such procedures and policies in place "to protect their customers".

On the other hand, it seems entirely possible that their customer is breaking the law or at least policy rules that require him to notify the company. It would seem that speaking to a manager, or higher up within Geico would eventually lead to someone that would contact the customer and demand to hear their version of what happened.

Best of luck in getting this resolved quickly.

The worst, in my experience, is State Farm.

I had a fender bender in 2001. It was both of our faults, but we mutually decided not to file a claim.

In 2004, I slid into the back end of a car on ice...$600 damage.

so, 7 years with State Farm, 2 claims, total claim amount $600.

I get a letter from State Farm telling me if I have one more claim, they're cancelling my policy.

I shoulda filed in 2001 and taken the money if I knew that was gonna happen.

(I also had friends, also with State Farm, who were dropped after two hail damage claims on their homeowner's insurance).

its not just Geico tho terpfan, from what I was told, they all do it that way.

State Farm has been nothing but good to me personally. Last year I was rear-ended, the guy that did it didn't have insurance. I had to drop my $500 deductable, but State Farm tracked the fucker down and applied the sabertoothed crotch crickets until he payed up. Then State Farm paid me back my $500. I was pretty happy with that. I'm pretty sure that what ever insurance company anyone can name will have people that say, "they're the best" and also people that say, "they suck ass"

I want royalties from that

that would be money well spent

HAHA! And I hear the radio commercial everyday that talks about Geico being "Fast and Fair". Guess that's only if it's your insurance company and not the other party...

Oh, State Farm DOES pay up promptly, no doubt about that. My problem is with their policy of threatening to drop a person when ONE claim (in my case, one $600 claim after seven years as a policyholder) is filed that they have to pay.

that is a bunch of crap! I've had to make one claim, but haven't received any threats (Thank god).
