1.04.59

There will be another update on SDCentral to GalCiv tomorrow.

Going to make a few tweaks and fix the terror star explosion thing. BTW< the reason why that code changed is that we put in a really cool new big explosion when you destroy a planet. Unfortunately, something didn'tw ork quite right on it (someone forgot to check something in). But the explosion is like the Star Wars planet destroyed explosion a bit.

Trade goods will be easier to trade except on masochistic level where they'll still be tough.

I also want to put some effort into the AI's diplomatic bearings. We want to make it so that you can effectively bribe your way to staying peaceful with other civilizations.

Though if you're good and your opponents are evil, well, not much you can do about that. (or if you're evil and your opponents are good).

Thanks for the upcoming new update, Brad.

Good to see that you have taken the feedback into account even though some of our very passionate players are not as tactful as they should.

The bribe thing sounds great, it'll make diplomacy a real option. Does 1.04 change the calculation of military strength (ie do the defense values contribute now)? It wasn't listed in the upgrade description.

@Stardock:
Thank-you. I guess I'll have to wait until I get home from work today to start another game ;p

End of quote

It did in the beta phase so I assume so. OTOH, it's a relatively minor effect so don't be expecting the AI to be frightened off by turtling with defensive ships.

Did they fix the bug about being unable to overwrite a savegame? If you click on a savegame and then save, it saves under "New Save Game" rather than the savegame itself. This worked properly in 1.03. Typing the savegame manually in the box does overwrite the savegame.

Great news! I was sort of hoping that "Intelligent" would have the best AI and that Genius and Incredible just gave the AI extra resources. Will that no longer be the case?

Yes, I fixed the overwrite save game bug

"CariElf" has to be the cutest nickname I have EVER seen/heard. I am actually getting a Burmese kitten soon and guess what her name is going to be. LOL

Christopher Packer, Funny you should say that.

I love saying; CariElf, CariElf, CariElf. LOL

P.S. Hands off she's MINE. LOL

Well, not sure whether it's primarily due to me going back to playing a Huge map after playing smaller maps for the past month, or the new AI tweaks, but I will say this about the 1.04.059: I've had to step it down to Tough instead of Painful (and hopefully that will be enough of a step down :SURPRISED: )

Yup. I just got it handed to me on Crippling which I'd previously beaten. I had a decent starting position, won alot of races and wound up with a alot of good (if far flung planets). I turned off the 100% military pump and jacked up tech and social. I swiped a TON of tech from the Altarians on a council event (with just them and me).

My problem...I gave into temptation. I've never been offered so many juicy evil choices in the game before. +39 production, +59 research, +26 ships, +35 PQ...on and on. I was on the fast road to demonic.

My planets were just starting to churn out some defensive battle axes. Most had gone through the initial Soil/Habitat/Fusion builds and were working on or just completed Manufacturing. I had a few constructors building up an econ resource, and 3 frieghters happily trading with the Arceans. All was right with the world.

And then the Altarians decided I was too evil to be allowed to live (they were right. Earlier I traded a bunch of stuff to a minor in my starting sector to get stuff from them, immediately after I landed my invasion force and wiped them out...hey it was a 24PQ planet...).

Corvette after corvette, backed for the first time I can remember with ESCORTED transports. I don't know if thats new to 1.04 but in my games the AIs had a tendency to leave the transports unguarded.

I was holding my own with the Altarians when the Arceans decided that demanding multiple hundreds of dollars from me was a good idea. It was...for them.

I paid them off, but each time they just asked for more. I told them no...and then the two front war began. At that point the Drengin started asking for money...and the Yor should up hostile to me right out of the gate.

One of the most effective pick the corpse of the weak guy tactics I've seen the AI make.

Chistoper Packer, Ok but I'm PRESIDENT. ;)

Note: I've seen the AI escort his transports, under various 1.03 flavors, when the AI has the ships to spare. Seems to prefer it, when it can.

Combat transports, on the other hand, travel by themselves generally.

Just observations from my gaming experience with GalCiv.

I'm playing on a painful game myself. Haven't decided to go back to crippling just yet. Painful gave me a little run for my money. I'm not venturing to say that I'm dominating that game, although its a safe bet that I'm holding my own and not threatened at the current moment. Right now its all I can do to stay near the 100 level on technology. Luckily enough I got 3 of the AI's at each other's throats with the 4th one in pathetic shape and the Yor collective dead. It's a bit more of a challenge. I might step it back up to crippling for the next game, or do this Maso challenge just for grins.

wampyre, All kinds of people HAVE AND STILL love Bobo. :) BoboElf,BoboElf,BoboElf.

Hmm, Perhaps you should keep it to Bobo. :)

P.S. There will never be a better Elf than a CariElf. :) :CONGRAT: :HOT: Sweeter than CHOCOLATE. :)

Bobo feel all warm and tingly now. Maybe him feel too much tingly. Maybe time Bobo groom again and fill up second jar. Bobo have big collection now in jars under cellar steps. Bobo so happy allkinds people like him Bobo will share some of collection if anykinds people want. Bobo also not change him name to BoboElf so CariElf can have Elf name all to self.
Bobo say to Elrikk: Maybe not good idea to change him name either.

wampyre cuts in: folks, although I encourage Bobo to enjoy his hobbies, one of which is computer gaming, I believe his collection of "things he's found while grooming" should stay in the jars.
Game on.
