New ideas for next expansion

Some ideas -

How about having s supernova - like a star system explode (that could be saved by technology) and or what about planet formation (like for example in a system where there are no planets - some are created.

Variable starting points - for example - I'd like to start with more than 10 points of "bonuses" and take on harder levels - now I also would assume that my score wouldn't be logged on the meta-verse (just as if you used the cheat keys).

I like the idea for more bonus points at start up. I also like the idea of planet formation, or at least more PQ enhancements, like terraforming for planets up to a PQ of 14... from there you would have to use soil enhancement, etc. I mean, if you supposedly get the technology to create planets... why aren't any planets created in the game? I was disappointed by that.

The problem is there are all these useless stars -- they might as well vanish from the map once you discover there is nothing there!

Here's an idea... you could set up mining outposts on really crappy planets (as opposed to colonies). Outposts could boost production in near by sectors. Survey ships could scout out planets to see if they are worth mining.

Survey ships could also occasionally find hidden deposits of water, or ancient alien colony domes on crappy planets that could boost the PQ once investigated.

I would also like to see more defensive ships. Once battleship technology is researched, your defensive ships are useless for the rest of the game. The battle hammer isn't technically a defensive ship because it's attack value is higher so it doesn't get the defensive bonus.

A Ship is NEVER useless, you may always give it and is apreciated.

planetidiot,

What you suggest with the planets already exist with the starbase, but it could be very interesting to combine... to give extra bonuses to starbase fixed to a scrapy planet, that could be great. For instance we could put starbase on planet within a system already colonized but with some of theses 1pq planets inside.

A star with a PQ 1 planet is useful, since you can use the planet to extend your range or culture flip opponents. An empty star is just cosmetics that can lure your scouts out of the path.

Supernova events like in MOO would be good, but they are a bit harsh. Losing your system if you can't fund enough is quite awful. There is such an event in galciv where you need to boost spying in order to thwart it, but others would be great.

If suggestions are being taken, I'd like to request that subtitles (English) be added to the opening sequence. They could be turned off or on through a menu item.

I am deaf and things like voices I can't hear bug me to no end. "Homeworld" was excellent in this regard, it had subtitles for everything, even for 'unimportant' events. "Half Life" really sucked in this regard even though there were scripts available, characters talking to you was important in the game and I gave up on it.

Either way, is there a script about what the announcer is saying in the opening sequence?

I am very happy that there's no other voice scripts as far as I can tell in the game. I've been playing GC ever since it first came out for OS/2, and very pleased to have it again! I think I paid $40 for the OS/2 version and got about 6 years of gameplay out of it. Now that's value!

I think Derricks suggestion is an excellent one.

Derrick if you like I can write down what is said in the opening sequence and post in the forums.

Just got back from a weekend away so I'll look at doing it after I've settled in again :).

Colony ship approaches...

For many millennium the galaxy has been populated by a handful of space faring civilizations. These worlds were linked together by star gates. The immense ancient structures harnessed incredible energies to fold space and breach the great distances between any two star gates.

Colony ship passing by...

The star gates provide security and peace for those who had collectively constructed them, but the security came at a cost, for the rest of the galaxy remained unexplored and uncolonised.

Colony ship heads towards the star gate, star gate powers up...

Contact was never made with the many planets not capable of interstellar travel.
Trade was never realised, and political understanding never reached.

Flashes to orbital view of Earth...

This era ended when mankind joined them in the stars, for the reckless humans invented, hyperdrive, a ship with hyperdrive was capable of instantaneous travel to any point in the galaxy. Thereby making the star gates obsolete.

See Kid with teddy....

Hyperdrive destroyed the old balance, now a race is on to explore, conquer and control the galaxy.

See Drengin with fleet flying over...

This is the story of how the human race became a galactic civilization and how it faced the challenge of competing in a hostile galaxy.

--------------------------------------

Well thats my attempt, hopefully I managed to get it all correct. Thought I'd post it here incase you check back.

Regarding defensive ships being useless: During the last chat with Frogboy, he mentioned a stronger defensive ship in the works. He said the puter had to be taught how to use it, however and I've yet to see it.

Here's another one -

how about more animation sequences like when you create a battleship!

Do this for like a frigate - and like for a deathknight, etc.

Hi Stydracos!

Thank you very much for the transcript! You made my day and I am very happy! It's a little thing in the game but it means a lot to me to finally know this tidbit.

Thank you again!
