Black Faction

*They met secretly in a small, cramped StarBase built strictly for this purpose. Nestled in a neutral nebula, Black One, as it has been known to the members, can dock about 4 different starships. First one to arrive is the ESS DARK EVE. The others for the time being are remaining anonymous. The meeting was brought to order as Dark Assassin (DA) opened the floor. The first suggestion was the question of a Second War with the Torians. Humans need more space and thus more colonies, but colonization has come to a halt. The Torians hold a few good systems but they also control the access point to a spiral arm. It is unknown what the arm holds but the members all agree that it must be explored and colonized.

After much deliberation the committee came to its decision, although they haven’t decided which empire will receive rights to the newly discovered systems. Since this isn’t the time for the society to reveal itself, the next problem is who will work together to defeat the Torians but also who gets to colonize the arm. Many empires openly suggest who will do what, but others like DA are a little reluctant to give permission to anyone in general. Although all present in the room are united, the empires from which they come are not. We have to maintain the illusion that we are warring amongst themselves. This will not be an easy decision to make, but now is a good time to reveal what this society is.

The name that the members give is it is called ‘Black Faction’, meaning that it is a ‘black’ operation. The goal of this society is the unification of the galaxy under the Terran Alliance. However, since the children of Sol are warring amongst each other, this group of elite members work together to solve the problems of war. It isn’t an easy task for the children of Sol are unwilling for the time being to unite. This group decides, as a committee, which empire does what. The Black Faction is not, however, an empire in it’s own right. Its members belong to the major empires in the metaverse, in a position to force the society’s agenda among their own empires. Thus this order of men, and possibly women among others, work closely together to benefit mankind has a whole, hoping that someday their decisions will bring about the first united Sol.*

I want to begin this ‘society’ it is not an empire, but a group of dedicated players that are entangled in the politics of the metaverse. I don’t know about anyone else, but I love to talk and write stories about this game and the metaverse. This would add one more element to the metaverse and I want to know how far to take it if anyone is interested, because everyone should know that something like this society would exist in real time. You don’t have to announce your membership or denounce your empire, you are entitled to belong to an empire or not, you are entitled to be good or evil. Everyone must have one thing in common, however, that is that everyone enjoys writing about the metaverse and arguing as empires. As I like to do. (That was for you CypherPax) This will just be a beginning thread. If a lot of people express interest I will start a Communication Thread.

Let me know whether I’m too crazy ;) and the first person to bring this up or that I’m a genius. Either one is welcome. :HOT:

An interesting idea, Dark. Sort of like a United Nations of the Metaverse. A meeting place for various empires...

Dark,

Perhaps you shouldn't be spreading more of our secrets. Next you're going to tell everyone we are actually members of the Illumanti.

I like the idea, unfortunately, I am actually at war with everyone else... as a pirate you have to be an equal opportunity plunderer (and least of those that have things worth sharing).

But I'm always up for a Black Op...

Sort of, Theoden, I was thinking more along the lines of a secret organization whose main goal isn't necessarily peace as much as galactic domination under a united Sol. Have you ever seen The X-Files and the smoking man that Moulder and Scully always run into and the group he represents? I was thinking something like that plus the galactic domimation thing. But you're on the right track.

Perhaps you shouldn't be spreading more of our secrets. Next you're going to tell everyone we are actually members of the Illumanti.

No, Cypher I will not reveal that strictly because I know for a fact that I don't belong to Illumanti, however now I'm let to believe that you are. Intersting.

*Rubs chin thinking.*

You need to stop making enemies Cypher. I mean you went after Hairy so you earned my wrath (However that didn't work) I figure at this rate you'll be dead before you know it.

I have one thing to say to you Mayito7777, you so crazy. LOL

This would be some kinda behind the scenes project that would help to establish a type of black market or a kind of Mafia space family. You could set up an inner circle with more circles that radiate out as to the level of involvement that each faction, empire, member(whatever) could be associated with.I kinda like the idea of a space mafia that is loosely tied together by the fact that we all are human and trying to become the soul beneficiary of the entire universe.

Dark Assassin: a word with you, sir.

I have been asked to represent certain, ah, influential personages in the matter of the proposed "Black Faction". They wish me to assure you that they understand the need for firm leadership and clear understanding at this time. They further recognise that such leadership must be of a clandestine nature. What is at stake is nothing less than the destiny of mankind. Such a matter is far too important to be left in the hands of mere politicians, subject to the delicate consciences of a voting public.

In a word, my principals are observing developments with interest. Keep up the good work.

To make sure everyone is clear, my morality would have nothing to do with any decision I will make. I am evil because evil pays, and I see evil as the way to fulfill my destiny as the one of the members in the Galactic High Council. This society will allow any human, whether he's a wizard or a Jedi or good or evil. It is an equal arena in which all is welcome to voice an equal opinion.

Don't worry Davros I am not a politician so don't you or your principals worry. I plan to keep the forum open to all, with out prejudice. However, I make no attempt to hide the fact that I am evil.

Good? Evil? What's in a name? In reality there is only - power.

This Black Faction thing is gonna be fun. :)

DA: Do you have a hierarchical arrangement in mind, with ranks and promotions? Or do you see the Council more as a smoke-filled-room, gathering-of-equals-brought-together-only-by-shared-megalomania type of thing?

There will be some form of command. There would be somebody like the "Speaker of the House" who is technically in charge, then there are 'senior' members and 'junior' members. In case you don't know the 'senior' members will have more say than the 'junior' members, however I do see it like a smoke-filled-room where people from all walks of life gather to one purpose: galactic leadership under the children of Sol.

This definately sounds like the sort of thing the Cold One would be involved in ;)

Sounds like I'm getting a lot of interest here.

You know what would be even better? Seeing if stardock can hook up any Black Faction member with a different medal, informing everyone that they are part of an elite society.

And not just anyone gets to be a 'senior' member. They have to have some influence within their empire, enough so that they can effect any policy issued. however any member of an empire that would like to one day have a say they can join as a 'junior' member.

"Even if it means we call on them many of us, whom find it an honor to die for our cause!" he rants on. "Our trained urban gorillas will see that you do not suceed!".

As one of the previous "hidden masters" of the Metaverse, always skulking behind the scenes and meddling with empire politics, I think this would be a good idea. A set of more vigilant masters would be beneficial to all. So, for as little or as much as it may mean, this Spymaster passes his part of the mantle over to DA so that a new order can be formed. Best of luck with the new society.
Well Gerakken, you don't have to go anywhere. I know about the 'hidden masters' of the Metaverse, and skulking behind the scenes, believe me. I just decided that since it [should] be everyone's goal for a united galaxy (whether they see it as the one individual empires or not). Anyone who is willing to set differences in beliefs aside and work to mutually benefit all will have a say. It may not replace the individual skulking, but it would have some organization to it. Any member of the "Black Faction" will have an agenda of their own but believe it is mutually benefitual to all. With this said, anyone who wishes to join the "Black Faction" say so. Then we can set up a forum thread for our communication.

-Dark

P.S. Bear in mind that if you do become a member you are still entitled to secrets. If it is your believe to unite the galaxy under your own empire this is a good place to set an agenda. No empire will be required to comply with any rulings made but the "Black Faction" however it may prove costly in the long run.

In order for the Faction to operate effectively, it must be able to control its own members. Yet a rigid leadership hierarchy is inefficient, for two reasons: first, it stifles creativity - and I have a feeling that the membership of the Black Faction will be very creative- and second, high rank paints a target one's forehead. Your scheme of an informal, Council-based operation seems to my principals to be a sound one. They have authorised me to offer you their full support.

*DA rubs his hands furiously, "Excellent, things are going as planned." He leaves his quarters and makes his way to the bridge. "Number 1, set course to Yor space, I need some droid workers."
"Aye Aye, My Lord." DARK EVE's engines roared to life has it left the asteroid on which it was hiding, DA knowns to watch his six.
"On second though make course for the Dragon Nebula, I have a stop to make first."
"Yes m'Lord." DA leaves the bridge returns to his quarters. He has to prepare.*

It is good to have support. The Black Faction is progressing nicely, although we don't have the influence that we need to succeed in a task this grand. Pledge your support for a united galaxy here, Join the Black Faction today.

Note: The Black Faction is not an empire, it is merely a society of concentious observers.

A figure appears at DA's shoulder on DARK EVE's bridge.
"A moment, Excellence?"
"What is it, de Vros?"
The figure proffers an information chip, which gleams prismatically for moment. DA glides it into his wrist console with practised ease. A schematic appears before them on the bridge.
"It is a map of the decision nodes on a Mentor class Yor Command droid. This is the model dominant within their highest council. It is believed that this schematic will greatly assist in our predictions as to Yor high-level strategic decisions."
"How were they acquired?"
"The Soca-Soda corporation took them as part of a larger marketing initiative. Quite what they thought Yor society would want with soft drinks is debatable. But as you know, Darkest, one does not lightly dismiss the Soca-Soda corporation. And we have...contacts, there."
"Contacts? Specifically?"
The figure is silent.
"Oh yes. Your "principals", no doubt. Sometimes I wonder where your loyalties lie, de Vros."
The figure seems perplexed, as if hearing the word for the first time. "Loyalties, Excellence?"
DA chuckles "Where your self-interest lies, then"
DeVros seems much more at home with this concept.
"With power, Dark One. And the Faction is power."
"Hmm. I wish to contemplate this new information. You may go."
DA turns to the coloured lights of the schematic holograph, revolving gently in front of him. After a moment, with no apparent movement from behind him, he turns to see that his order has been obeyed. He is alone on the bridge.

"Hmmm", he says again. "That one will have to be watched. They will all have to be watched."
DA takes another look at the schematic. de Vros may prove valuable with information like this, he thought to himself. "Number 1 take us to the Soca-Soda Corporation, we have a Yor to dissect."
"Yes, M'Lord." An interesting development in the metaverse is about to change the course of Yor classification. DA leaves the bridge and returns to his stateroom.
He asks his computer a question,"EVE what is you're take on de Vros?"
*He seems to have mixed loyalities. His first lie with his principals, but he wished they remain anynomous. However I know who they are and who they work for, and I agree with his reasons for keeping them secret. His second lies within the Black Faction, this is all he as, he as no empire to call home, he is a freelancer. But he is a dangerous one that that.*
"Good work, EVE." DA almost laughed at de Vro's stupidity, "Does he not think that I would find out who his principals are?"
*No, I think he knows you know, however he wants you to keep them quiet.*
"I can do that, having one's sources revailed can be deadly in this game, and the metaverse is almost as cutthroat as it gets." DA thought it is good having a living ship with telekinetic powers, it is how he managed to stay one step ahead of the curve.
