Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Hmmm...I think Stardock is going to start the server changes pretty soon.

In case they do start, and we don't get them back for a while, everybody have a great day!

Of course, until they go down, we can still talk! :HOT:

I have not been to Paris since 1985 so I am sure many things have changed.

Hmmm...looks like the site's up for a bit. I can't believe how much I just sat staring at the screen thinking

"When's the site coming back up?"

Man, I've got a serious problem... LOL

I wonder what the requirement is for the Very Good smiley? I checked the MWC Statbot and it said I have an alignment of 1.83 or something like that. And my Difficulty is now over 8.00, so hopefully I will qualify for a Crippling shield sometime. Of course, if Greldon still hasn't gotten a Maso shield, it must take a LOT to ge there! LOL

I see you submitted another 60k Maso, Greldon! Congrats!!

Terl,
I wrote a long post about some changes and forgot about the time, and posted it 2 minutes after the server-out deadline... no luck :(
Suffice to say that the city has changed enough to deserve another visit, even though not all the changes ar for the best. But the good changes are really great. I've been living in here more or less since 1986-1988 and I could see things get better and worse, at the sme time.
:SURPRISED:
Just thought about how long I've been here (in Paris)...

obviously the problem is spreading fast considering how many of us are here now... LOL

One game related question, for those of you maso players (I mean who play maso ;) ).

In the thread about scoring and military vics LdiCesare wrote:
"And that still doesn't address the fact that Medium [maso] games are harder than both tiny and gigantic ones."

What would you think about that? Since I have no experience with those, I can only guess that it is true, since in medium you're much closer to the AI's planets than in a maso with a nice isolated starting point. Therefore the question: is it possible to have the max score with a medium map?

Just wondering :)
I think that is true for most difficulties. Sirian pointed out in another thread that Medium is less forgiving of mistakes. I find that to be quite accurate at most difficulties (I've played). Tiny/Small doesn't give the AI enough of an edge, while on Large/Huge/Gig you have more time before you see the enemy and therefore more time to expand and consolidate. On medium they both out-colonize you unless you get lucky and are in your face quickly... Yupp, I still haven't submitted a loss, mostly because I haven't had the patience to play through a lost cause scenario...

Hope that helps a bit even if I'm not a Maso (and won't be for a while) player.

I agree with you, and it always helps to have someone who agrees with me too ;p

I think Medium maps are the hardest. With Huge and Gigantic maps, you get some breathing room at the beginning, and with Tiny and Small maps, there are fewer systems to worry about.

Honestly, I haven't won a Medium/Maso game. I usually get clobbered pretty quickly. As far as the scoring, I don't think it could score very much higher than a Small map, because of the limitation of the map. Less population, less ability to create a large military, generally smaller number of minors and more difficulty in getting Trade Goods/Wonders.

What does everyone else think?

Wow! You guys are quick!

Yeah that's what I thought, but it does not seem very fair.
However I had the impression that scores are higher with AP ; but that observation is based on only one game. By the end of the week I'll have more evidence (I hope :) )

By the way, I don't know if Stardock realizes you submitted that ver 1.49 game! I've read in another thread that none of the AP games are supposed to submit! They did say, however, that you could keep the save games and submit them later.

Theoden: By my calculations, I need 3 more maso games to raise my average difficulty to 9.0. I need 41 maso games to achieve a 9.5 average difficulty. I don't know what the break point is, but hopefully it's somewhere in between. ;)

My current stats:
Current Difficulty Average: 8.91
Average Galaxy Size: 4.71
Average Morality: 1.17

I don't know what any of the break points are. :notsure: Maybe Spellforce could tell us?

I still have to win a medium/crippling, so don't feel bad ...

Maybe with AP it can be easier: there are more people in the galaxy, so the bad guys anger is more evenly distributed... Or maybe playing one of the scenarios, with your team-mates to protect you in the first years (if they are loyal and honorable enough, that is)

Yikes! That's pretty dang good!

LOL

I wonder if that's close to what it takes to get that pure white smiley? I would actually like to get that someday! :D

I think that what I saw is that the multi-dimensionnal metaverse is not up yet, thus the scenario-games cannot be submitted.
I saw many people who submitted 1.49 games. It seems to work fine.

Anyway, they've already stripped me from my former (fake) top 25 medal, so what's a game after that ;)

Hey, it looks like somebody in the German/French thread (the one that's stickied) needs some help. Lots of !!!'s in their message! You might want to see what he needs...

I'll have a look.
By the way, I'm fighting for that little white pure good smiley too, but it looks like I'm hundreds of games away:

Average Difficulty: 6.08
Average Galaxy Size: 2.15
Average Morality: 1.77

Checking out guys. I'll be back when I get home :CONGRAT:

I've only played one medium and as I recall, it was more difficult than the previous siz map. My first maso was tiny, and I played each size map in order (1 game each)up to gigantic, where, as you can see, I found a home. LOL I like having a little time to prepare for contact with the major AIs. ;)

He was just happy: he managed to play 15 hours without a crash. The french version was pretty buggy, from what I saw. And someone took the time to translate himself the files for the patch, so it was his first patched game.

Great!! :CONGRAT:

Greldon: I actually like Small maps better, because the AIs only have one or two systems and they don't colonize PQ14s! I usually have a fighting chance to build some transports and take out one of them early. After that, it's just a matter of time...
