Welcome to all the new FotR members. Let's everyone have fun. As Ray would say, "Feel free to drop by and say hello". :D

Hmmm...for some reason, I'm not able to access my mail right now. :notsure:

vincible: looking forward to that GOTM!

Okay, the glitch in the matrix has passed and I can get my emails again.

Rick, haven't gotten anything from you, yet. I'll keep checking.

Oops, just got it! Thanks! :D

"Well done, Ray! A 6-0 away victory against Arsenal? That's fantastic! You must be delighted with your players."

"Indeed, the players have worked hard all over the pitch and they deserved all the praise they can get. We mustn't be complacent though, it's too early in the season to celebrate."

Bidding the reporters farewell, Ray Chua, manager of Chelsea Football Club, walked briskly to the dressing room.

He had felt the disturbance in the fabric.

An interplanar communication channel is opening and Ray knew it came from the Galciv reality.

"Ray! Your presence is required in the Fellowship Halls."

Ray slipped quietly into an empty shower room. Incanting powerful words of magic, he pointed his hands at the wall.

A shimmering blue gate opened for Ray the Wanderer.

Greetings to all!

I trust everyone here is well. :)

I was just checking the dates and noticed that I've barely been away for 10 days and boy, has things changed around here! :SURPRISED:

I've not caught up on most of the posts yet including our empire thread but I've read Frogboy's notice on the Xpack. Really looks good and it would certainly make me want to play more Galciv when they arrives.

Good job as usual on the Metaverse Review, Theoden. It was a most interesting summary of the events that transpired while I was away.

On a personal note, I'm playing a football (or soccer) management game - Championship Manager 4 and spending the rest of my free time dreaming of the possibility of starting my own business.

I wouldn't be dropping in as much but I will certainly return here if I'm needed.

Theoden, I've amended the empire website as requested. :)

Until you mentioned that you're playing a game, I thought this was one of the more bizarre "GalCiv Vacation" stories we'd heard in awhile...come to think of it, it still is. Sort of like Charleton Heston in a Mighty Ducks movie.

Good to see you back, Ray, if only for awhile.

Ray! Thanks for stopping in! Yes, foul things were afoot around here, but hopefully everything is calming down now.

As you can see, it's a new age in Fellowship history! G.R.O.S.S. has fallen, not completely but for the moment they are less of a threat. The Jedi are now attempting to wrest first place from us. I'd say we're putting up a pretty good fight! :D

Speaking of fight, that last game of mine was all Incredible AIs...the first I'd tried. There is a definite difference in a Maso with 3 Incred/2 Genius and a Maso with all Incred!! Holy moley! I'm lucky I escaped with my life. On the other hand, that's the largest score for a Small map I've seen!

Well, it's late here and I'm tired.

Remember, folks...it's Election Day in the US of A, so get out and make your voice heard. Sure, it's not a Presidential year, but your local candidates are actually more important than the national races, anyway...right?

Talk to you all in a few hours! :HOT:

Not sure I'm worthy to follow up on a Killa Koala story, especially that one--it was one of the finest pieces of writing I've seen on this forum, even the parts that weren't lifted from Tolkien. But anyway, this is the epilogue Killa’s account of Jaws’ visit to the Fellowship, post number 396 in this thread.

Epilogue

The sun set over Gondor, and the nation's fields and orchards glowed in its rays. The Great River Anduin drew a sparkling blue curve through the vast tapestry of green and gold. The sky above them was crisscrossed with the contrails left by craft landing in the starport to the west, and these, too, were suffused with light. Vincible and ricbayer sat atop the Tower of the Moon, drinking in the scene.

Presently, vincible stirred, and glanced toward ricbayer. “That visit from the Special Forces emissary went far better than I expected.”

Ricbayer chuckled. “Did you see his face when we introduced him to our “minister of Foreign Relations”? I nearly ruined it all by laughing. Theoden’s awesome, he can pull that shit off with a straight face.”

They shared a laugh. “And we got a little bonus, too,” vincible said slyly.

“Oh? What are you talking about?” ricbayer asked.

“I’m sure you know about the magic of the shamans of the wild men of the south,” vincible began. “It’s based on the principle that a piece of a creature retains some of its essence, even when it’s detached from him. So if you have a bit of a man’s hair, you use that can make him go bald. If you have a bit of his blood, you can make him feel faint and weak. And so on. Crude but effective. The only catch is that you can’t take the piece from him by force.”

“Simple enough, I suppose,” ricbayer replied. “So you got some of his blood?”

“Better,” vincible smirked. He opened a small sack by his side, and showed ricbayer the contents. A single bedsheet.

“What’s that?” ricbayer reached out to touch it, then paused and began to guffaw.

“Yes,” vincible said with mock sadness, “I’m afraid our good master Fish couldn’t keep his fins to himself on this trip. Before he left, he couldn’t resist bedding a poor goblin girl. And this gives us far more power over him than mere blood, skin, or hair…”

“Hmm…” ricbayer tapped his chin thoughtfully. “So what do we do now?”

“For now, nothing.” Vincible stood and began to pace. “The Special Forces are powerful, and we don’t want to antagonize them unnecessarily. But someday, this little item may allow us to manipulate events, or perhaps give us an edge in negotiations, if that turns out to be required.” Vincible closed the sack, and with a small gesture renewed his Spell of Preserving on its contents. “Obviously this does not go beyond us two. Theoden would not understand.”

Ricbayer nodded his agreement. “Theoden doesn’t even tolerate minor torture. He would be horrified at the mere thought of a spell of impotence. Truth be told, it makes me queasy as well.”

Vincible grinned. “It doesn’t have to be a spell of impotence. If we chose, we could make it a magic of virility as well. But even so…” his faced turned grim. “I love this land, and have sworn to protect it. Have you ever seen a starfleet batter a world into submission with Mass Drivers? I still have nightmares of it…” he trailed off into silence, and turned to gaze out over the Gondor. The sun had set, and darkness smothered the Vale. Just when ricbayer thought he would speak no more, vincible began again. “To protect Gondor, I would use forbidden magics, I would torture innocents, yea, I would even cast a spell of impotence should that be necessary.”

“So be it,” was ricbayer's quiet response.

Ray! You missed all the controversy!

It's a fun time to be in the Fellowship--we're in a real battle again, for the first time in ages. We were even out of first for a minute or two.

Will you participate in the GOTM?
Honestly I'm glad I missed all the controversy.

Now that the threat from the Undead and space pirates have both receded, the Fellowship has indeed come into a new age where we are competing with friendly empires such as the Jedis for cultural dominance over the Metaverse. :)

Yes, I will participate in the GOTM. Is it up yet?

I've just finished catching up on our empire thread.

The Fellowship Council has been doing a most outstanding job in further the cause of the Fellowship in my absence. Keep it up guys! :D

Alex most certainly deserves to be an honorary member. In fact, I had wanted to include both him and Matthew in the Council as well. I do hope that Matthew returns. If he does, make sure you induct him in the Council.

Great story Killa. I've would probably contribute a story segment to tie up the loose ends for Evil Ray and also for my semi-retirement.

Thanks guys. You can't beat Tolkein for the use of English, even if I do have the urge to put more commas, in.

vincible: LOL Poor Jaws...

Hey there, Ray! Long time no see around here. Too much has been going on, I do admit. Looks like most everybody has been waiting to pronounce GROSS dead and me and the boss ain't quite calling it a day yet! :HOT:

The Meta has been shaking up a storm while you were away. Maybe Agent Ray did somehow control the Meta through the Geektrix. Hmm. It is almost enough to make this old pirate superstitious...

Yo Gerrakken,

It's amazing how this little Metaverse of ours has stirred up the kind of drama we have seen over these months.

For those aiming for Fleet Admiral, it would seem that the requirement for this rank is 80 games and about 350k score.

Rick looks good to get it next. :)

Hail to the Fellowship,

It is nice to see such activity. I did not log on for a few days and there is like three pages to go through. Some of it very intersting.

I was able to submit a Gagantic Challeging game which put me at 300 on the list for about 30 minutes, but it was nice.

I think a few more tries and I will work on the next level, what ever that turns out to be.

The other news is I have been involved in a PBEM D&D game. It works better than I expected and it has me putting together a Lord of the Ring's PBEM game.

I am posting it here first to see if any Fellowship members might be interested. After a few days I will start a new thread.

ANyway brief intor to the story: It will be around 2700 ~ 2800 Third Age based in the old Kingdom of Arnor. The Rangers are just being formed and the first batch of recuits have arrived.

This is based on CODA system which means magic is not strong and hack and slash is not the most important part of the game.

If anyone is intersted please send me an email at:

captkrueger@yahoo.com

I hope there is enough interest to get this started.

Good morning everyone!

Great story, vincible! I read the follow-up in the Special Forces thread...this story might take a life of it's own! :D

Ray, I'm hoping Matthew will return as well, but he's been very quiet the past several days. I agree he certainly deserves a spot on the Council and he will get it when he returns.

Celeborne: Great job on that Gigantic game! A personal best score! You're doing very well moving up the difficulty ladder. Thanks for the heads up on the PBEM game. I'm a little too busy to participate, but I'd say you might get a little interest from some of the others. It sounds like an excellent timeframe for it!

Celeborne - you might want to drop citizen Mexal a line about the PbEM game - megan@medals.org.uk
