Good morning, and happy Monday everybody!

NASCAR races can be a bit tedious sometimes. Sort of like a baseball game that is a pitching duel. If nobody passes or wrecks, most of the fans just drink another beer. :D The Martinsville race wasn't too bad. I got a really nice sunburn on the right side of my face...I look really weird now. ;p

Good to see you back in the saddle, Ray! Good luck on your next game!

Yes, the 1 IP change for 1.11 will definitely make many of us change our strategy. I confess that I have made use of the 1 IP bug a few times...bad Theoden!! LOL

Downie, you've done it again! That was an amazing story! I'm going to post it on our website (as a separate story from the Evil Ray series). You should put a copy of it on the War of the Worlds site!
Okay, Downie's epic has been added to our website for safe keeping! http://www.angelfire.com/rings/fellowshipgalciv/

I still think it should be on WotW http://idle.thehueys.com/wotw/index.php

:D

Also, welcome to the Fellowship Obsidion! I have added you to our Roster on our website.

I kept meaning to put all my stories into a single sequence on the WotW, but I never got round to it.

Now that the 1 IP cheat is going, we'll have to find new ways to abuse the game, such as saving and then using the map-whole-galaxy cheat and noting down the locations of all the good stars and resources, and then reloading so the cheat doesn't stop you scoring. Of course, the AI already has that advantage.

I always ctrl-u at the start of a game to see if Im going to like the map or not. I also use it to see where the other AI's and minors are. Doesn't really feel dirty when I do it. Last couple of games I have still taken the first map generated and have not used ctrl-n.

Hi All,

Just stopped by to see what is happeneing. I was able toget into the Top 600. I know not like the company we have here, but I am still learning. Next game I am setting all the AI to Bright and see if I can live long enough to win it this time.

:) :D LOL

Right now my gaol is the top 500, and then stat winning at the next higher level.

I have been bribing with techs also. It works for me as I really hate to give up planets.

WTG, Celeborne!

Keep at it and enjoy the game! All your contributions are welcome!

Started my first ever gigantic map this weekend. The thing is freakn huge and my comp is ca-chunking along with it >:( . Seems like I just upgraded the paper weight too. Oh well. Its also my first time having one of the AI's set to incredible. Normally I wouldnt have that many firsts in the same game but I really wanted an epic drawn out battle. I set the YOR to incredible since they are dead by midgame in every other game Ive played. I wanted to be able to see what they looked like when they were more advanced. So far Im getting my wish since they are currently the top dog by a long shot. Im playing on tight clusters with 2nd lowest # of planets, think its "occasional". Much more like "real" world. Lost of empty space between clusters, just a couple planets in each cluster. All that space makes for a nice buffer. Anyway, I decided to right in with updates on my progress just for fun. I only get about 4-5 hours a week to play and Im very slow and so It could be a month before Im done.

Ability picks: populists, +70% pop growth, +15% morale, +20% research.

Got a decent start (took first map generated) that has a PQ 20 planet in my home sector. Earth is only 18 but who cares when you can colonize a 20 and get a +44% PQ colonization event :CONGRAT: . Hello PQ 29!! Got a love being evil :) Hehe. My starting cluster is just a little north of the exact middle of the map and is very small. However, i was just able to reach another small cluster that in turn gave me access to a rather large portion of space. I beat the others to it and should have around 16 planets when Im done. The pure good Torians have the 2nd most at 12. They had an awesome start and take up pretty much the entire SouthWest of the map. The Evil Drengin have 8 planets and are directly to the east of the Torians and thus straight south. There is a lot of empty space between us though. The Altarians and Arceans (both pure good) are to my North West and East respectively. The Altarians are now the closest race to me but they are fairly weak. They will die first :). The Yor are the big fish and take up the east side of the galaxy. They have already started wars with the Drengin and Torians. I dont think the Drengin are going to last very long since they are pretty cramped between the Torains and Yor. While I am in the middle and central west of the galaxy, Ive got a lot of empty space around me and should be safe for a while. The only bad part about my start was that I only had one resource within range. Oh well.

Things are looking pretty well for me right now, nobody is pissed at me yet. Ive been sending little gifts to keep everyone happy. Ive got the usual tech lead over everyone but the Yor. Im finding that the incredible AI is amazingly fast at going through the tech tree. They already have battleship tech! I have yet to build a single military ship. Still taking advantage of the ocean of space around me. Instead Ive been concentrating on social development. Currently building stock markets everywhere. Already have eco exchanges built. My general strat is to build an awesome social and economic framework, then a military, then lay waste. On smaller maps I throw in an early starfighter/transport alpha or 2, but not on a map this big. Ive just finished going through my initial rush of yellows and building the corresponding wonders/goods. Next on the list is to get hyperspace (for the hyperion power plant), tech through nano mining, then get to battleships. Im a trade good/wonder freak. I get real pissed when I dont get one. This means i spend most of early game maxing out one planet with production improvements and at least one or 2 prod starbases. So far this game the only thing I havent gotten is diplo trans. The alexians got it super early on. Dont know how they did it. Everything else is mine though. I should say MINE >:( . I play keep away like my 2yr old. I trade techs only when It gives me an advantage. I dont sell wonder or trade good techs until I have built the good/wonder. Its MINE! The galaxy is MINE!! hehe.

Anyway, I will probably start building battle axes for defense within the next couple of turns. Raise my military rating a bit. Probably put out a couple battle hammers too just as a show of force. If i can get some freighters to the kwalisians (whatever) due north of me, ill wax the alexians who are just one sector south and sitting on a juicy PQ 22. Right now Im thinking that I want everyone to be at war with the Yor until I get to Rangers. Im worried they will get too powerful otherwise.

Well that about somes it up. I give another report in a week or so. Till then I'll just include a list of the wonders/goods I have gotten so far which is a pretty good indicator of where Im at.

Gal Stock exchange Grav Accel
Diplo Trans (traded for) Tristronium
Ultra Spices Frictionless Clothing
Galactic Exhibition Restaurant of Eternity
Aphrodisiac (now have a total of +150% pop growth) :D

Wow! I'm interested to see how that Pop Growth pick works out. I usually max out Diplo and throw in some Research! It sounds like you've got a fun game going. I too try to build the TG/Wonders and get rather upset when I miss one. >:(

I will tell you it is critical to keep everyone at war with the Yor! Incredible AIs are very tough to keep happy, so keep them interested in the other AIs! ;)

I'm looking forward to your next report! Good luck! :HOT:

Thanks for the interest Theoden :). Ive been using the pop growth pick for quite a few games now actually and it seems to be working awesome. Its important to use it in conjuction with morale or PQ picks. Being evil helps too due to taking the +PQ colonization events. This is becuase pop growth means little if you cant keep your morale at 100. You can do it when your a good guy too but morale resources become the golden fruit.

Having a high growth rate gives you HUGE advantage in population size. This becomes a big overall advantage because your population directly relates to your influence, production, research, and tax income. Whats not to love about that? For instance, my top planet usually breaks 10 billion before an AI on Intelligent breaks 3 million (i forgot to see what the ratio is on higher settins but I know its still big). This means that I get a lot more tax income, production, research, and influence out of each of my planets than the AI does. Even on tiny and small abundant maps I have never been in any danger of influence because of my extra pop. It also a great pick if your wonder/trade good freak because your production capacity goes up so much faster than the AI's and you get the appropriate techs faster too. Especially with the research picks I have. So its almost like getting bonuses to eco, infl, research, and prod from one pick. The only drawback is that you have to have sufficient morale or PQ to make it work. Pop growth is worthless if you have a morale of 54. Thats why I have at least a total of +35% to morale and generally play as evil with these settings. If you get a morale resource early on though then you are pretty much golden regardless. Later in the game you will have to get another one though cause your population gets massive.

Oh and its also nice when you want to do an early game rush. You have now worries about offloading 1 billion people here and there, you can make it back in no time. Thats usually what I do if Im having trouble with morale, just build some transports.

I never put too much faith in population growth bonuses... In my last game I experimented with population levels. I found that in the later stages, I could take 75% of the population off the planet and all it would do is reduce the planet's income by about 10%. Is it different in the early stages before economic% bonuses trigger the income cap?

It was an odd game, a Gigantic Maso. I got a great start (all the AIs in one corner) and was so busy expanding I missed most of the early trade goods. The Torians were the only threat, and that was only because they had a ridiculous influence bonus. Early on, one of my worlds (adjacent to Sol) went skull-and-crossbones. I realised that if that flipped, it would probably start a domino effect, and I had to put everything on hold to build enough constructors for three culture bonus starbases (without the benefit of culture palace tech) in that sector to save it. Since the Torians were otherwise friendly, it was really just a question of time after that.

Gerakken must sorely be out of the loop with this version 1.10/maso thing. The Yor I remember were a feeble bunch who usually colonize slower than the other aliens and especially slower than me. And while they were kind of quick to go war, they really were not an effective conquering machine. In my experience, if the Yor caused trouble later on, I was bigger, they were smaller, problem solved. Squish! I agree that getting into a beginning game scrape with a close-by Yor could imperil one's empire, but it seems like if a player can survive past a decent colony rush out of the gate, the Yor would usually be at a size disadvantage.
The Yor were the only Incredible AI in that game, Gerakken.

Good luck on the Gigantic map, Wiley. I hope your comp holds up.
Vincible, congrats on all the 60k games. Sounds like I better get used to gifting techs for the new version.

Wiley, I enjoyed reading your post. Keep us up-to-date and as Theoden said watch out for the incredible AI - even if it is the Yor. Tackling both an incredible AI and 1.10 version gigantic map for the first time is challenging in both skill and stamina. ;)

I didn't get around to playing today on my gigantic maso. It is still early and I am not sure I can win it but I finally have some trade going and am out of the red. Playing gigantic 1.10, I need to chill out more and relax between turns because the computer is only going to go so fast. LOL.

Tried looking for your WotW story, Theoden, and I guess it still isn't approved. How long does the process usually take? Who does the approving?

Hi All,

I just cruised the libary and I had a question:

Does anyone use these?? Have they been used some to ensure they work?

Frankly I am looking to see if I should even think about downloading these or wait until the game is easy.

Any comments would be nice.

Have a great night everyone!!

I used to play with library mods, at a time when the game was starting to seem stale. Some of the 'event' mods are a bit buggy - the effects of the 'good' choices don't always do what they're supposed to, since good choices that benefit the player are forbidden.

Well, idleprocess does the approving. It usually doesn't take more than a couple of hours, so I guess idle must be busy in RL.

I decided to add a big twist in the story, so I hope idle gets around to approving soon!

Wiley, I'll have to try using Pop Growth picks sometime!

Friend Gerakken, yes the Yor are generally a nuisance in most games, but they are the only Incredible AI in Wiley's, which means they will beat up on the other AIs. That could make them very powerful if he doesn't keep an eye on them.

Okay, idle has approved the new chapter. I hope everybody likes it!
