In My Wake

(freewrite)

High five me,
on my way out,
and make sure everyone sees.

It's all far behind me,
I'm cashin' out,
and in my wake swirl these seas.

Pop the cap,
and breathe in the vapors,
alert the neighbors of my past behaviors,
plug in the nightlight.

Getting swallowed by my 7 and a 1/2 fitted cap,
watching my breath turn to vapor,
no excuse to savor this kind of behavior,
burnout the nightlight.

A keyhole's field of vision,
depicts a picture perfect scene,
a couple asleep beneath a tiny blanket,
a half glass of wine and another spilled over,
staining the hardwood floor they don't own.

A depleted source of direction and vision,
act two, a kitchen table scene,
hestitation shrouds cowardice like a blanket,
it never began until it was over,
to finally call something one never possessed their own.
