To be in the MWC you need not live in one of the MW States. You needn't have been born in, nor must you reside in one. Rather, to be a member of MWC you must have an affinity to one of these states. That affinity can be your home town, or that town you call home, it can be the Sears tower, or the St. Louis Arch or the Mall of America. Or maybe it's that girl you met in that cafe on route66 you now call your wife.

Anways, in another thread (you know, the one the Euros stopped reading), it was idly suggested that a new Empire called The Former British Possessions Empire be formed which probably would cover just about everyone in the world. I reckon that ALL Australians and New Zealanders (and I would guess Americans and Canadians too- maybe not Mid Westerners whatever they are) would be PROUD to be considered a Former British Possession. Because, let's face facts, the British have lost their Empire and maybe aren't too good at Galciv (or at least the jury is not yet in).

But quite frankly you know none of what he said occurred. There never was a merger. You never joined our original nor any renamed empire. We never settled on a new name and indeed never agreed to any merger. You were not against it in principle. I was not against it in principle. You agreed to run it through your channels. I agreed to run it through mine. That's all that ever occurred. Yet I see junk like that posted. Most in our two empires did not wish to merge. That's ok. We didn't merge. No problem.
And though you aren't responsible for it, I think you'd agree that kind of junk of statement needs a retraction.

Copernicus #6: Sorry to hear that about Johnson Polak. Apparently, U.S.Government research shows that drop bears now take out more tourists each year than sharks, pet snakes or the Hippo races at Kings Cross, Sydney (and those races really get ugly).

I'm not all that far from Sacramento actually...up in the Roseville area. I like the area except for the summer time when it gets brutally hot and the air smoggy as hell, but other than that...not a bad area.

Why anyone would choose to run naked through six inches of mud down a long straightaway ahead of a pack of rampaging hippos while bystanders lob overripe kiwifruit at them is beyond me, but apparently it's a popular activity. Then again, the most popular sport around here involves driving a car as fast as you can around in a little circle for hours at a time or until you crash, so what would I know.

Oh come on Copernicus (any relation?)...you're just being silly now. The kiwifruit is NEVER ripe. As you would KNOW hard kiwifruit actually riles the hippos much more. Just tonight (ie Friday night, and we are actually ahead of you chaps, but its not a thing) a couple of "Europeans" as they are now called, got trampled. It made me think of a joke at the time, but I've momentarily forgotten.

Oh yes, this did the rounds a few months ago:

forceinfinity: Hey, Denver seems like a cool place to live! I lived in Provo, UT for about a year, it was great being able to hike around in the mountains there.

I left Wayne in 87, so we probably never crossed paths there. Ah well, probably for the best, I try not to remember my high school years much.

Christopher Packer: Oh, well, I guess I just assumed they were overripe; I've never actually been to one of these races, I just saw one in a documentary on the Discovery channel. (The camera was pretty far away from the action, so all you could see was fruit arcing against the sky in the distance.) If the fruit really is that hard, I don't see why the animal rights people haven't started some kind of action by now.

(My relationship to the real Copernicus? Apart from deriving at least 50% of my genetic heritage from That-Country-That-Keeps-Getting-Conquered, I have no clue. I think he was a pretty cool guy, though -- he had both the mental ability to see past the Ptolemaic ordering of the heavens and come up with a much more mathematically feasable theory, and the cojones to publish that theory in the face of the Church and all its dogma. In my book, you can't do much better than that.)

Wow. Small world. Spent much of my childhood there.
If you travel Douglas Blvd east 1 mile past the freeway, all that stuff used to be pasture land. And I mean all of it. There was nothing on that road from about 2 blocks past Sunrise all the way out past Old Eureka Road. The houses near Granite Bay were there but that's about it. It was a narrow two lane road out to the lake then. And now I'm told (though I haven't seen it in years) It is a major artery with tons of strip-malles and that I-80 is pretty much solid traffic and suburbs all the way up through Auburn.

LOL did Roseville ever get that Tooterville Trolley as we like to call the Light Rail? Yeah lets encourage ridership by putting it right smack through the most crime-ridden areas in Sacramento. Yeah that's the ticket. Forgot to check if the Kings won last night. Starcrossed they are. This was to be their year and poof, Webber with a torn up knee.
But that heat can be brutal. Usually get couple weeks a year of 110. Some years less. We pretty much spent our days rafting the American River when that occured. And your life would not be complete without an "Oh but it's a dry heat" comment. Although I must say even though it's hotter and it feels hotter, I'd rather have that then my clothes being damp again 5 minutes after taking them out of the Dryer. Oh and just wait till one of these winters where you get 2 months straight of Tule Fog. They don't happen all the time but do quite frequently.

The air used to be much worse. They've cut down on Sutter, Butte, Yolo, and Yuba county Rice burns. They used to all do it at once. Right in the middle of the hottest stale air month of the year (rolls eyes) Oh was that brutal. Just brutal. We used to go on vacation those two weeks just to be out of the area when they did it.

Well this turned into a whole thing. I believe that after all this I have decided that I am taking the whole empire thing too seriously.

I will join the Midwestern Confederation. I am proud to be from Ohio and the Midwest.

(Personally, I think it's kinda cool to see how dominating Ohio & the Midwest is becoming in the Metaverse. I'd love to see the Midwest Confederation ahead of the European Alliance at some point... )

Nice to see that MWC is still going to be good competition. Congrats on the new member(s). That will keep my GROSS team mates and I on our toes.

Are you talking about high crime areas? Those are usually described as bad. Usually, they are areas that the city has mainly abandoned, the gov't spending going elsewhere. I'm a big proponent of keeping areas clean and unneglected. Criminals know when authorities have basically abandonned an area. They aren't stupid.
