A funny thing happened while crossing the Galaxy...

Hey, this funny thing happened to me while I was crossing the Galaxy! An amazing confluence of events has created ship speeds starting at 15, and rising!

I'm playing in a Gigantic Galaxy with +2 Speed. But that's not enough, I want more speed, so I build Gravitic Accelerators. The jelousy inspired by my souped up Battle Cruisers causes someone to invent the ULTRA dive! Even the UP gets in the act, boosting the Constructor base design speed to 5! :d

I just invented Dreadnoughts, but I've decided to let everyone live so I can get all the Speed I can bear!

Hey Frogboy, when I finally submit this game, can I get a "Fastest Ship in the Galaxy" medal? :HOT:

That kind of speed in a Gigantic galaxy would be great. It'll make going back to a regular speed universe kind of tough. I just hope your game submits okay and it doesn't get flagged as "Anomolous".

No worries, it wouldn't be anomalous. The Ultradrive random event and constructor UP event are official.

I would be partying in a perfect world like that. In my predatory warfare strategy (in the limited times I am in a war), speed is life. Hit and run. Attack, attack, attack, and get out of there away from a counter-attack if you can. I am not one who emphsizes speed picks at the beginning of the game for the colony rush. I just want an overall speed advantage later on.

What a lucky person you are Rabid. I rarely get free speed like you have, and certainly never so much at once. Speed Rules!

What about the Navigators event? (Pretty sure that it's in the original install.) With that +2 bonus, someone could trump even your record.

Navigators is a Library Download, but it's a great event.

I only play Medium size games.

I hate how slow everything is on bigger maps...
but mostly I hate having to explore everything and develop every resource...

too much constructor management time as it is... maybe the expansion will fix that a bit.

Oh, I'm only going almost 3x everything else :)
Still, the Drengin declared war on me, so I checked on my Survey ships, y'know, to be sure they were safe.

Thunk!

"What was that?"

"Sorry Captin, we just drove through another pesky Drengin dreadnought."

Dreadnoughts are worth such pathetic experience LOL

Can't wait for those rally points though!

Rally points will definitely help with that. I have 17 raly points set right now. All of them are autorouting of constructors to one anomoly or another.

So you can rally constructors to a resource?

That helps a bit.

There's still the "figure out how many constructors I need exactly" part....

the last game I played, I was actually thinking that I'd like to turn galactic resources OFF. Or make them more rare... that would be a nice option.

Or have Starbase Governors. That's my top suggestion at the moment. The constructor micromanagement is killing me.

Now THERE's a nifty idea, Ray!

The only other thing you'd need with governors is an easier way to get the right number of constructors sent there to build upgrades when they're available.

How about an order for constructors to head to the nearest unfinished starbase and build the next thing in its build queue? So if all your starbases need two extra modules (all using the same build queue), and you've got a pile of constructors, clicking the "Upgrade Starbase" button on each ship sends the first two to the nearest starbase, but the third one to a further starbase (since the near starbase already has its two constructors enroute). If all starbases have everything on the build queue, a little popup could just tell you this order won't do anything - but if you leave that order switched on, and you add things to the build queue later on, they'll automatically get dispatched to the starbases. It's basically a flag that says "i don't need this ship for anything specific, just upgrade something whenever you can".

Of course, what's really killing me isn't starbase micromanagement, it's remembering where the bloody resources are in the first place...

I use the minimap alot to remember where the resources are. It can get hard to see them when the maps gets busy.

Maybe a new type of map is in order - like the tactical one. How about one where the resources are oversized and easier to see? Adding to the recipe - how about one that tells you what type the resource is - not just a cross. How about the map telling you if you are mining the resource yet (at level 1, level 2, etc) or just have military SB there?

Adding in some more - show planets you are building constructors at (suggestion - color code - dark blue no, light blue yes). If routing constuctors is possible use this map to manage it - like trade map.

I stole most of these ideas from the Metaverse map! ;p
