Michael, do you have Smart Exception installed (it's under free stuff in Stardock Central if not) and if so, does it pop up a dialog asking you to submit a report? If it does, click submit, then open log directory. This should open a folder containing the file Galciv.exe.cra. (If not, the file would probably be in the same directory that SmartException is installed in).
If you send me a report I may be able to tell what's causing the crashes.

Thanks for the reply ... will do.
i installed the program, actually got to play about 40 turns without ctd. smart exception did not pick up anything when it did though. worth a try. any other ideas? even though it went so long this time before ctd i am not optimistic about it being that way every time. fyi i also have a dialogue going with suppor. thx
Are you sure alt-control-delete isn't just closing the game? Depending on what version of Windows you are using it can be pretty easy to do accidentally. And in fact to close the game is the only reason I would hit those buttons while the game is on.

jn64: Hmm, I did get a crash in GC today when I switched users, but I had thought that it was because I ran another instance of GC when I was logged in as the other user. I'll look into it further.
Lucas: I'll see what I can do.
LDiCesare: Generally when you have problems submitting it's not because of a mod. Mods might affect your score, but not the actual submission of it. There's some more debugging code in the expansion pack, but until I start getting feedback from the beta testers, I won't be able to do anything about the random failed submissions.
When you say 'random', do you mean I have a chance of getting it through if I change something slightly (like a different pop number on a planet or something) or by resubmitting stubbornly?
I mean by resubmitting stubbornly.
I put all my MP3s in my galciv playlist folder(stupidly), then tried to create .m3u playlist files saved to the playlist directory, and it did not work...the playlist showed up but the music didn't play. It created a "Default" playlist which worked fine, but no other playlist did. I moved the mp3s to C:\MP3 and recreated the .m3u playlists and it works great. Took me hours to figure this one out.
This may not exactly be a bug, but someone else may put their mp3s in their playlist directory and try the same thing, so if it is a bug then it's good that I posted it here. I will also post on main board under playlist problem for others to find.
If I invade the last planet of a race I get the message saying the race is no longer with us. But if I culturally flip the last planet I don't get the message AND I can still interact with them after the planet is gone, until I hit turn.
(1) Landing on an unclaimed planet and getting an event that gives a research bonus. The research bonus does not get added either to the planet or to your stats screen.
(2) When landing on a planet and getting the event that gives production bonus. Is the production bonus for military or social or both ? Please be specific. If both list both.
(3) When landing on a planet and getting the event that gives starship bonus. Is this the same as military bonus ? If yes please restate this as military bonus.
(4) After the initial rush for planets is over I switch my survey ship to Auto Survey. The ship will not "move" in auto survey mode if the ship is selected when you hit the turn button. To get this to move you must deselect the ship.
(5) In earlier versions of the game I am sure (not positive though) that it was possible to ally with the minor races. Apparently the major races are able to ally with the minors. There is no way we know that they are allied. I have played two games now that the minors came to the aid of their allied friends. If the majors can ally with the minors we should be able to as well.
This issue may have been posted already but I could not find it today.
(6) Trade screen has Establised, Maintenance and Tax which seems to be unused. I would really like to see Established working. Not sure what the other two would be used for.
(7) The color coding by race in the trade screen does not seem to work very well. By this I mean that the color does not always match the race you are trading with.
(8) When in the foreign policy screen talking to a minor I am never able to see the ships they have. But if I view their planet I can plainly see these ships so I know they have them.
(9) I was just playing a game on a large map. There were 4 planets (unclaimed) in the upper left corner. I had just researched to get the extra range to get to them. On my way I just managed to beat out 2 colony ships sent by the Dregin. I checked the stats on the Dregin colony ships and the range was 2 sectors shorter than they should have been able to travel. The Dregin were 5 sectors from these planets. I did not save the game but this is the second time I have seen this from the AI. Is the AI cheating or are the stats wrong on the colony ships ?
(10) This is a request. In the Economic screen it would be nice to have a sub-heading under tribute listing who is paying tribute by what amount. My reasoning, I like to bleed the race dry then invade. If I am getting tribute from more than one race I sometimes am not sure who is not paying me anymore.
I think if it ever just says production, and doesn't specify it means both.

1) You are right. This bug was fixed previously but has apparantly crept back. You can fixed it yourself by following this.
ISSUE: The event Pods01 is supposed to grant a Research bonus for the Neutral and Evil options, but it does not.
REMEDY: Change GoodAttribute/NeutralAttribute/EvilAttribute from 8 to 9.
Hawaii-Five O
2. Production means both.
3. Starship bonus improves the attack and defense of the ship by x%. Same as bonus from military resource.
4. Not sure but could have something to do with the End Turn skips moves in the Option screen.
5. You can ally with minors. In the diplomacy page, u can click on the left-most button in the centre top of the screen and you can see their wars/alliances with different races.
8. Yeah, not sure why they disabled that. Could be to prevent us to buying over all the minors' ships easily.
9. If I'm not wrong, the ship details show the default range for the ship. If the Dregs have controlled gravity and gravity mastering, they will get +2 to range.
edit: forgot to give HawaiiFive-O credit for the research bug fix above.

Probably about every possible thing you could do to fix your crash problems has already been listed in this thread.

frustrated
Yes I'm sure. I get the Galciv crash screen too, and my other apps keep running fine. This is XP. Havent really found a good reliable pattern for it but I keep SmartExpection running so hopefully that will report it proper eventually.
This was not their capital (that went much earlier).
The only special thing about it was that we sold it to them earlier after it flipped to us from the Altarians.
The second little bug in this gme was that we were not able to talk to Torians from the Race window any longer either. Only the Speak button from the planet kept working.
So we had to build one Terror Star in the end to finish the game. I can send the game file if somebody needs to have a better look.
Miles, if you have any of the playlists from when you had the files in the Playlist folder, can you please e-mail them to me so that I can see what went wrong?
Bradley: Minor races will not trade their ships under any circumstances, as it would cripple them very quickly.
I believe that the ranges are adjusted based on the galaxy size, but that should have been reflected in the ship stats. I'd have to see the save game to see if that was the case, or if they were out of range due to a bug, not cheating.
The bonusevents.event is fixed in my copy...apparently it just needs to be updated on the server.
Michael: e-mail me your dxdiag report and any smart exception reports that you have at cbegle@stardock. I don't know why you haven't heard from support, or why your messages haven't been forwarded to me. If you look back at earlier posts, I had asked you to e-mail me and you and responded that it seemed to be working.
uh, do you like to be whipped?
email on the way. no exception report. never gave me one.
