Wraith, that button is for the Xpack. Shouldn't be there. Clicking that will always result in CTD.
Bah I've been dumped to desktop six times tonight for no good reason. I even closed everything in the background. Considerably more issues than other games I've played, this one doesn't like me for some reason. (:(

Michael: Glad to hear that. ![]()
LorenPechtel: If you have a save game that shows this, please e-mail it to me at cbegle@stardock.com. I'll need the .sav file and the corresponding folder.
Wraith10: if you still get inexplicable crashes, install SmartException from the Free Stuff tab in Stardock Central. If SmartException is running when GC crashes, it will pop up a dialog asking you to submit a crash report. Click Submit, then open log directory. This should open folder containing a file named Galciv.exe.cra. If not, you'll have to search for the file on your harddrive. (it's usually in the same directory as SE is installed). Then you can send that e-mail to me.
I have Gal Civ (with the newest patch) but have been experiencing random drops to the desktop lately. They come without warning, and do not leave an error message.
I have SmartException installed, and this program seems to hang as well when the game quits.
Any suggestions?
My specs:
Win XP Home (with all the latest patches)
AMD 1.0 Gig
GeForce II MX 32 Meg
Hercules Fortissimo II Sound Card
700+ MG RAM
Thanks,
Ronnie
It could be a sound problem. Do you have Winamp3, WinDVD, DVD2MP, or Moonlight Coordless's Xmuxer installed? These have all been known to cause crashes either because of buggy codecs or conflicting drivers.
Sometimes programs overwrite Microsoft's mp3 codecs, and this link will fix it:
http://www.stardock.com/files/ms_mp3codec.exe
You can e-mail me to reply at cbegle@stardock.com
#1 I was being sadistic and i built terror stars next to everyones stars.... anyways, i noticed some of my terrors had 10/1 moves or 7/1 moves. I think it only happened on the terrors i had other ships stacked with on guard mode.
#2 The "Show Routes" button makes me crash. Every time.
Fleeting TS with any ship would confer the TS with the ship's movement points.
Show Routes is a xpack button which should be hidden. It was an oversight.
It would be nice for the list to display starting at the top with the sort order I chose.
And while we are talking scroll bars would it be possible to make it so on the research tech screen you could hold down the arrow to scroll instead of having to keep clicking?

I find saving about every 10 turns helps a lot, but ... (:( (:(
Thanks for talking to Ian about my problem.
The answer to your question is: Yes, I have to log onto my DSL (I hate DSL BTW but had to go to it after moving to an area where cable was not available) account but I log in immediately after booting my computer and stay connected 24/7 (well I attempt to but DSL has an annoying habit of logging people off when they least expect it which is why I tried an endless ping session).
I hope the next update has a fix cause I have lots of games to upload...

"(well I attempt to but DSL has an annoying habit of logging people off when they least expect it which is why I tried an endless ping session)"
Not all DSL does that by the way ... you have a PPPOE ADSL which so over sells the switch bandwidth to keep the price down.
There are dedicated SDSL and IDSL lines which are just that, dedicated.
Just FYI.
It's not XP Pro itself unless it's a specific setting you changed on your computer. I've never had the game crash using XP Pro. It's true I'm playing the beta now but I never had any problem with 1.05

Brad Tritone: I've fixed it on my end. It'll be in the next beta build of the Expansion Pack.
Richard Frade: Please install SmartException from the Free STuff tab in Stardock Central. If it is running when GalCiv crashes, it will bring up a dialog asking you to submit a report. Click Submit, then Open Log Directory. This should open the directory where the GalCiv.exe.cra file is. (If not, it should be in the folder where SmartException was installed). You can then attach the file to an e-mail to me at cbegle@stardock.com along with your debug.err file. Make sure to mention in your e-mail that the crashes seem to happen with the events.
Llaamaboy: SmartException would probably also be helpful to you. See instructions to Richard.
TexasTim: Well, Ian has to get the new IsInternetAvailable code done for his own project, so I don't think that it will be very long before he gets it done and I can add it to Gal Civ. ![]()
When starting a new game I adjust the Economy to 100% Military and then adjust the tax rate and Gov spending until I get the mix I want. Most of the time this works, but sometimes when I raise the tax rate past 55% it will change from generating 13bc to 3bc. Raising it further will get it up to 4,5,6 ......
I noticed it only seems to happen when the starting planets PQ is 17.

Like CariElf said this is intentional. The population it lists on your planet is only tax payers. Set your tax to high, and people won't pay it.
