Bug Reports for 1.05 (put expansion pack bug reports in the other thread)

If you have bugs in Gal Civ to report in version 1.05, you can post them here.  Hopefully it'll keep both bug report threads a little cleaner. :)

I posted this in a seperate thread where I said I am having submission problems to the metaverse in 1.05 but I'll add it here so the developers can more easily see it.

I just upgraded from 1.03 to 1.05 and played a game on a medium map and achieved a military victory. The end game screens mentioned that my score was great and it would be the envy of others on the metaverse blah, blah, blah.

Anyway, as I clicked thru the end game stats and finished with them I expected to go to the old metaverse submission screen. But I didn't, I went right to the main menu. I reloaded the endgame save and the same thing happened. So then I went to the metaverse and checked out my stats and sure enough my game was not logged.

Does anyone know why this might be?

My connection has gone from Cable to DSL recently if that might make any difference in some hidden game setting someplace on how it determines if I am connected.

Note I tried again today (I first tried 2 days ago) and still no luck. I just go directly from the end game stats screen to the main menu. No submission screen for me. I can access the metaverse from main menu just fine so I know my DSL is alive and kicking at the moment the game ends.

Any ideas appreciated,

Tim

When you bring up the governor window (from the domestic policy screen), if the last governor you had selected in a previous use is NOT the top one, it displayes the list for the top one anyway. Then putting projects into the list gets all messed up unless you change the governor selected.

I'm in a late game crippling gigantic right now that with a bug and minor issue.

The issue:
The save files takes about 5 to 10 minutes to load - no exageration. I'm assuming this is because there are hundreds of planets, hundreds of starbases, and probably well over a thousand ships of various kinds in the game. A related problem is the serious slow down as the game calculates turns - takes about a minute or two. I'm running a 1.4GHz AMD with 256 MB SDRAM, so it's not as if it's a slow box.

The bug:
A minor race appeared in the game recently. If I go to war with them and then offer them a peace treaty, I can demand their only star system and they will accept. When I click "Leave" on the diplomacy screen, the game crashes. Happened a couple times. I have succesfully wiped out minor's with this same tactic in the past without the game crashing (although I think this is a peice of cheese that it would be nice to remove - it doesn't make sense for a race to give up their only star system for a peace treaty).

Thought of another one. Probably has been brought up before, but if you fill up a governer's build list beyond what is immediately visible (that is, you have to scroll down to see the projects at the bottom of the list), any attempt to change the priority of projects at the bottom of the list gets messed up. Typically they just won't move. It'd be nice to get this fixed because I play the larger maps and in the end game I have to use one of my governers for just the initial projects in order to shorten the build queue for the other three.

Using 1.05, My planet view usually doesn't update when I change domestic policy (I have to select all the planets to get them updated).
Sometimes it does update, but I didn't get exactly when. I think if it is not open while I am updating the domestic policy, it'll still show how long it'll take to complete by the old policies.

On the last game I submitted, I had systems with 70,000 to 180,000 attacked by T. Alliance transports with 0 million troops, and it got stuck after I pressed space. after about 10 seconds I could press the return key and then it showed results (obviously the invasion was repulsed)

Some AI bugs with diplomacy includes rediculus refusals to deals (e.g. I offer a good system with a class 21 planet and an overlord to the T. Alliance and want corvett in exchange and get a refusal!, Also I offered 8 fully built starbases for a single constructor starbase on a resource [with alterians] and get refused, and all sort of similiar rediculus stuff). All of my games are submitted so you can check them up...

Sorry if my english gets weird, It is not my native toung.

Yours,
<

I saw a new box I hadn't seen before and pressed it and got the following crash. Then I restarted the game and can't find the box anywhere. I think it was in a dialog with another major race and I think the box said "show routes".

I have an annoying bug to report with version 1.05. I cannot run with music turned on. After a few moves, I'll crash to desktop. Once I turned the music off it turned out that the Drengin's were contacting me for the first time.
Here are the system specs:

Intel 875P desktop board.
P4 3.0GHz with 800MHz FSB
2GB ECC PC3200 DDR RAM
Windows XP Professional
BFG GeforceFX 5800 Ultra running detonator drivers 44.67
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum with latest drivers

Here are the various crash reports, each failing in NTDLL.DLL:
As a side note I was updating drivers for the video card to try and isolate the cause so some of these reports were running on the built in VGA drivers.

Hopefully someone can help, I've already tried using the Microsoft MP3 codec posted on stardock but it did not help. Disabling music allows me to play the game, but its not as fun without it. :sniff!:

I'd like to know how rally points are supposed to work. I somehow accidentally got a couple of rally points set - don't know how. I'd love to use rally pts but when it's unintentional it messes up my strategy.

Crash to desktop when clicking on Total Routes button in Stats screen for a race. Mid game - medium size galaxy - 2 majors and 2 minors left - lots of ships - Windows XP 3.06Ghz Intel 1 gig memory.

I couldn't get the file to extract. I got this message:

I've also had the CTD when clicking on total routes bug. When i've successfully spied on an empire and clicked on the total routes button from the stats screen in diplomacy, it crashes.

This is a minor gripe the game works fine but I've lost all of the graphics in the Social Projects window.
I reinstalled the mutlimedia files. I believe this event occured when I updated from 1.04(?) to 1.05. I would like to get them back somehow. I hoped that when I upgraded to Beta to graphics would return. But no luck.
Thanks

Re: My post (#6 above) - I just found it - it is the "total routes" box in the foreign policy "stats" window. And I see that others are seeing the failure as well (posts #9 and #11 above).

I didn't originaly have problem with Galciv 1.05. The last couple of days though hour by hour/game by game the game keeps crashing to desktop. At first once every couple of hours, now it can crash after a couple of minutes. I don't know what it causing it or why it started doing it now. I haven't installed any new programs or anything. I even updated my graphics driver last night just in case that was the problem, nothing!

I include the text from one of the crashes.

Hmm, yeah, I get these assert errors too. I wonder if they are connected with the crashes.

Last time I didn't click on anything! It just crashed.

TexasTim, it sounds like the the API that we use to check the internet connection is failing, so it's just not opening the submit screen at all.

I've fixed the crash when trading for a minor race's last star system.  I don't remember if that fix made it into the beta of the expansion pack or not.

The bug with not being able to remove items at the bottom of a build order seems to be not present in my build, which is the expansion build.

The Planet list refresh issues should be fixed in the expansion.

Dancer42, I'm confused...were you invading with zero transport troops, or was one of the Alien races doing the invading?

If the AI doesn't trust you because of past hostilities, they will be extremely wary of trading ships to you, which may be what you're seeing.

The Show Routes button is part of the expansion pack that shouldn't have gotten into 1.05. (It was an accident, not a Pavlov or Skinner experiment.) :)

FreeBorn: try running this link:

http://www.stardock.com/files/ms_mp3codec.exe

Did you recently installed/updated a mp3 player program like WinAmp3? WinAmp3 has some buggy codecs that can break the in-game mp3 players of Gal Civ, Rise of Nations, and presumably other games.

Rally points are not operational in 1.05.  You have to have the beta to be able to do anything with them.  They should have been locked out, but Brad was having merge issues when he was trying to update 1.05 from home the week that it went up, so maybe that's why you were able to get them.

Martin: Clear your browser cache, then download it again and see if you have better luck.

Wdll: will you please e-mail me your save game? I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.  Put them in a zip file and send them to cbegle@stardock.com

I had the same crash bug as Lucky Jack but I believe that the button's name was "Total Routes" and it was in the diplomacy status screen. I noticed it after reaching medium espionage level with the race, but like Lucky Jack when I go back to that same screen it’s not their any more. It probably only gets enabled when you hit medium espionage level while playing but has no code behind it thus the crash.

Here is another CTD. It occured when I was double clicking an orbiting defender to de-orbit it, but it is possible that my cursor slid off target for the second click.

For me, when I restore a saved game, it consistently gets the influence wrong. It starts off only coloring the sectors where I actually have star systems blue, and says I have 0 influence in all other sectors. Then after a month or two, my influence 'spreads out', other sectors become blue again, and my influence in alien-controlled sectors goes above 0. The same thing happens for the alien civs, too. At the end of the game, you can see when I saved/restored the game, since the influence graph has these huge reverse spikes (for everyone).

I'm still playing the game with most other civs on 'beginner'. This has happened consistently no matter the universe size or planet density.

I have noticed that too. It doesn't sound too serious though.

I am having trouble with the new governor's list. When the display area for the list gets filled to the point where the arrows become active it becomes very difficult to arrange the projects with the priority arrows. Almost nothing works. In one case I had many entries for the same project at the end of the list and I had to resort to removing projects from the list and re-entering them, adjusting my order of selection to get them to go into the list in the order I wanted them to be in by watching the action of putting an entry into the list.

Re: posts #20 and #21 - this is a problem that has been with us for some time. It even delays a cultural victory if you have to save and restart a game after it reaches the point where it is counting the months to victory.

Bug 1.05 : When the Yor Collective's last planet collapsed under the weight of the Golden Arches and came over to TI, they still managed to declare war on me when a few turns later i attacked their ally the Drengin. I've also had some glitches where the AI won't let me attack an unhappy (skulled) enemy planet in another enemies turf. Another minor irritation is the inability to ditch ships while in orbit (particularly transports)
