Hello! I have been trying out the new version. My impression after some testing is that the ideas are good, but some changes are a bit overkill. I would like to focus on the changes to mobility in this post.
Some people seem to have complained about slow ship speeds. This has never been a problem for me, but I can understand how some people could think that. I would be fine with adjustments to ship speed. But this just feels like way too much. Part of it is just a subjective feeling. It feels unthematic that Sins of a Solar Empire moves along this fast.
A more substantial worry has to do with the ratios between mobility gained through research/items and passive movement speed. A lot of external sources of mobility feel very underwhelming at the moment, which I am confident in saying is not good. For example, Navigation sub-channels in the tier 5 civilian research for TEC is supposed to feel like a large and satisfying spike in power. It is a tier 5 technology after all. But right now, I barely feel any difference. For me, this is very un-fun and the tradeoff is not worth it. Much of the joy of building your empire is to feel those large shifts in power once you hit those research goals.
I had similar overkill worries about some other things. But this was by far the most pressing. My personal preference would be to start with a more conservative change, and then there will be plenty of opportunities to adjust as time moves on.
That's just my opinion!
Thanks for taking this seriously. I'm very much enjoying the game in its current state.
