Thank you. That's comforting (I guess). It seems like it should be much more obvious that this is an early access game so expectations can be set accordingly. I hope that Stardock and Ironclad Games do as good a job as the original.
Thank you for the response.
It came to early access late last year. In many cases, old game was put into new engine, only TEC loyal faction was present. Economy was such that the fastest to get a new cap ship was nearing 40 minutes, capship hp regen was similarly slow, took some 30 mins to self-heal without repair. Repair being moved to T2, (there was no age-up mechanic only number of labs) Trade was different. Planet stuff was different, like needing some lv to get to asteroids I think. All these were reworked.
Pirates started with old models, no starbases, titans either.
When I played first, combat was a few times faster. It did remind me of DotR mod a bit (pretty much the only mod I played pretty extensively, needed a lot of work to finish though)
There is no passive HP/Shield regen compared to SoaSE:R, so the game tries to less feel like a reskinned Warcraft III Frozen Throne with 16 capships Heroes, with counter system being very similar 25-200% damage done based on class.
What I so far do NOT like about the new game, apart from seemingly slower pacing (TEC capships gated behind T3 civilian age up)
is new unit designs that for some reason do not have just weird shapes, but things like Vasari Scout when you look at the model from various angles, it looks like a snake head. Are Vasari ships copies of earthly snakes ? Vasari gun turret looks again, like some demon head or soomething. Missile turret, look it up close from all angles, it looks sort of like a goat head with two horns sticking out the side, making it look like a downward pentagram. I mean those were in SoaSE:R on either Coronata or Eradica when using their skill, a downward star shined in red. Antistructure cruiser was also a star pointed downward.
As far as I understand word Kar means black in Tamil language, so Karrastra would mean black star.
Anyway, I was expecting space devilry/magic faction to be the Advent. As pervs they are, they try to seek out revenge against those who reject them because of their sticking to perversity, in order to not drown themselves in backwardness and superstition. Visualizing phase jump, is part of magical thinking in people spreading RL 'Unity', where they tell you you just need will it and it happens. And when it does not, then there is a disturbance in The Force Or some other 'wrong' that needs fixing. A narcisstic perv sees the normal as the bad because he seeks to rule, was rejected, so then they need to be destroyed to satisfy the perv narcissist.
With them, I would not mind them screaming in their narcisstic blood rage, how their unique 'godhood' was denied. And how they 'deserve' to rule. They never did any wrong according to themselves, because their cult of perversity is about being contrarians.
'Space pyramids' should be these witches objects of worship. Their ships shapes having shapes that symbolize their perversities should make sense. Because that is them projecting their wickedness as the 'new' normal. Because it is normal to them. Not objectively. These do not operate in the objective, only in the subjective. That is why they can be pervs and say they are actually the good guys or gals. Because they say that only their subjective matters. Meaning they can dictate their subjectivity as some sort of right to rule. Especially within a sectarian structure that allows dissent in the form of 'Unity' The only allowable thought is approved by leadership or deemed a blasphemy. So, to these extra self-righteous cultists, anybody rejecting their perversity is deemed a blasphemer, to be burned on a space stake.
Vasari, while I do not know their design features, one branch comes off as parasitic imperialists, the other side as symbiotic ones.
For example, I very much like the new carrier cap ship design, looks inspired by ME hive thing, I think it looks really cool, u know, 'collectors' etc For example, Vasari old fortress looks weird. That makes it good in 'my book'. A head of an animal to serve as a basis for a ship looks very cheap to me. Why, well, if you know, maybe you dont. So, let me explain. Ever saw say, an excavation of a piece of wood from a few thousand years ago ? A wooden depiction of a head. Formed in such a fashion to inspire something, fear, awe, basically, to evoke worship relationship to said object, meaning idolatry. (which is objectively a sin) Reapers in ME games had that big space ship based on a fish. Boom rocket motors,(sepia or something) whatever. It did look weird. And sort of cool as well.
If Vasari get more reaper-y, in form, at the same time advent had that open mouth fish in the first installment. Titan for Loyalists also looks like a sort of 'fishy' animal and it does not look bad at all. Just heads imo looks cheap and bad. I think changing shapes of some ships in order to remove those head shapes would make it look better.
I mean, the Vulrak Penetrator also looks like something with an open mouth, yet having huge armor. If something is really heavily armored, then I suppose less open ship design would fit more.
I remember the game called Ashes of Singularity, I played it, even turned the doomer chill music off. I could not make out the shapes of units and their function. In space, well, you can say that ground physics dont apply.
Vasari old heavy cruiser vs new one. Old one looks less open, it looks sort of sturdy. From practical point of view, T-34/76 aka Kodiak got replaced with something that looks like a T-80 hull, called Harcka. Not Harckoff. A hull, with minimum surface, for a space tank, with turrets all over in pretty interesting locations. No excessive tentacles. However those vasari are those aliens with tentacled ships, so that is their feature But that would require a whole lot armoring than confined hull of Harcka.
Anyway, to finish with my 'rant', I tried playing SoaSE:R few days ago and I have to say that I like this unfinished game already a lot better. Personally at least. While the most current patch is not what I would consider an optimal state, I do expect the stuff to be fixed.
Anyway, I was wondering, why Vasari being sorts of space demons isnt really the greatest of ideas: Demoners are already Advent, which would mean, Advent should be Vasari subordinates. However, if the most evil would be Vasari factions, what is then, the thingy that kept/keeps chasing the suddenly 'poor' Vasari ? for those 10k years ? I hope it aint the Biblical Reapers. That would mean game over anyway If those are not the case, then them (Vasari) being something actually 'alien' in theme actually makes good sense imo. (like the 'collector' inspired carrier, whih again I think looks great)
Floating space stone carved heads are overused in so many other games and dont look good, because they do not look believable/practical.
