What am I doing wrong (ship designer)

I was surprised when components started randomly appearing on my custom hall after dropping them into the Equipment Manifest. If I don't want my design covered in weirdly placed  components I need to individually hunt then down an manually shrink and/or offset them. Some of them are quite hard to select. This is a nightmare to deal with. I must be doing something wrong. I also would like to know my attack and defense stats specific to their type (beams, kinetic, shields etc). A single Combat Rating value is not interesting nor useful when designing to counter specific weapons or defenses. What gives?

Nobody else experiencing this? You can see what I mean on this example - the engines, shield, and missile are being auto-placed in ridiculous spots.

Yes this seems to be an issue with auto placing the components,Frogboy has mentioned that they are looking at maybe making these invisible when placed  at some time at the moment as i do go back into your design menu and shrink them down this is frustrating i know.

Still the same after the official release. Don't people create custom ships anymore? If so, aren't they concerned that the visual look is completely ruined when equipped? Perhaps there is a trick to make it easier to grab equipment to shrink it. I'm baffled that such a large part of the Galciv mechanic is fundamentally broken and due to a feature touted as an improvement.

Did you enable the Advanced edit mode option? Select options (gear icon) in the ship designer screen. This is for Supernova 2.01
