I'm having trouble getting the themes to work

I just got windows xp professional yesterday and I wanted to download and use a new theme.

I downloaded it successfully but I couldn't seem to get it working.
The file type is a DXTHEME file but the default has no program for it to open with.When I click on it it asks me do I want to get the XP site to match the right program to open with or do I want to do it myself.

I choose the site option and it didn't recognize the file and I didn't want to choose to do it myself for fear of messing up

Below is what it looks like.

Please help

The information you need to use skins, is on every page, in each of the libraries, near the top of the page.....

Download and install DesktopX and the apply the theme of choice and it should work. Though, you have to understand that there are Themes designed to deal with the abilities of each evolution of the main program DesktopX so your best chance of total compatibility is to run the newest (official released version)

Themes created for the Betas might have flaws in them and you need to understand right away that if you are not in a position to deal with the errors that might come about, or understand the total ramifications of running beta software you should only stick with official realeases...

Directly from the FAQ, which is located as the very first post at the top of the message board:

How to use skins
What programs will I need to download to start using skins/themes?

Every skin and/or theme has to have a program in order to be used. For example, if you have downloaded
a WindowBlinds theme, you will need the WindowBlinds program to apply it. For Sysmetrix skins, you will
need the Sysmetrix program. (See a pattern here?)
Every section/library has an "About" section near the top of the page, with links to the downloads.

File Extensions
What are these odd file extensions?

You're probably wondering about extensions such as .wba, and .dxtheme. These are nothing more than renamed .zip files, and are proprietary to the programs they work with. Here is a short list, that I will add to as I can.
.hvd = HoverDesk
.wba = WindowBlinds
.logonxp = LogonXP
.ipz = ICQ Plus
.obpack = Objectbar
.wsz = WinAmp
.wal = WinAmp3
.xptheme = WinStyles Theme
.suite = WinStyles Suite
.bnskin = BeatNik
.curxptheme = CursorXP
.dxpack = DesktopX Objects
.dxtheme = DesktopX Theme
.iptheme = IconPackager
.mmz = MusicMach Jukebox
.wst = NextSTART
.wsw = WorkShelf
