Quick Review + Questions on Research & Travelling to Other Sectors

First things first, I have played GalCiv 1-3 with all expansions available, GalCiv 4 is the best so far. There is a lot more character and personality in GalCiv 4. I am unable to put into words; GalCiv4 just feels more alive and you get the feeling that you are really building a Galactic Civilization. 

Back to questions I would like to ask:

  1. Are research items randomized? It seems I can only research the 4-5 options under 'Research Candidates' window. When I go to research navigator, I cannot research what I want, even if I had already researched the prerequisite. How can I say focus research on production?
  2. How do I travel to other sectors?

This is how it works at the moment. You can choose to get a new set of items to research, but this will increase the research cost.

This will be changed into the following in a future update:

  • Research Center screen to differentiate between techs that are close to breakthrough (giving a 25% cost discount) and all the others available techs (that are normal cost. (i.e. no tech focus wheel).

How do I travel to other sectors?

You will need to research some techs, one to see subspace streams and another to travel via them.

You will need to research some techs, one to see subspace streams and another to travel via them.

Or your race needs to have the starfaring ability.

right now there's a little wheel icon on the top right area of the research screen that lets you focus your research into one of 4 diff categories. i missed it at first too ;)
