Issue With Conquest Victory

Where's Waldo?

I am playing a game where I have captured every world, but the game says that there is one other civilization still alive.  It turns out that this is because that civilization still has a colony ship somewhere in the universe.  I have included 4 screen snapshots below:

  • The first one shows the size of the universe
  • The second one shows that there is another civilization that is still alive
  • The third one shows where the colony ship is (but you can't see it!)
  • The fourth one zooms-in so that you can see the colony ship without it being covered by the banner containing the world name

I spent a lot of time playing "Where's Waldo" trying to find this colony ship hiding under the world name banner.  There should be a way to find any ship owned by a civilization to avoid this kind of unpleasant endgame experience.

Sorry, the screen snapshots were there when I originally posted this message, but for some reason they disappeared.  Since I continued playing the game I cannot recreate them.

If I knew how to upload a saved game, I could upload the save I created with the hidden colony ship.

This is a known bug. I don't know if the devs consider it such since it hasn't been fixed since GalCiv 3. I've encountered this bug in GalCiv 4 myself. An AI civ surrendered but somehow it was allowed to keep 1 colony ship so they were still in the game.

FYI, this bug first appeared in GalCiv 3 in one of the first tutorials. In that tutorial you start out with a colony ship near a colonizable world. This 'feature' been an inconvenience ever since. A fix I have suggested was to make it a game option, where having a colony ship keeps you in the game, you pick at the start of the game.

As for pictures, did you press print screen to get them? If so, the game should have made their own copies and left them in "\Documents\My Games\GalCiv4\ScreenShots".
