Unable to play with friend

"can't connect to host" error

i'm going to describe this as good as i can.

 

Me/My friend hosts a friends only lobby, I/he click(s) multiplayer, lobby games, click his/my game and join.

he/I adjusts the settings, add bots, ready up and click start. 

After the host hits start, me and my friend (or just him, it seems to only happen to me sometimes) get an error. The error is: can't join game (it says some stuff about check your firewall and something along the lines of use a vpn)

Me and him managed to play 1 game, after that this started happening.

Hello everybody,

I confirm that I encountered exactly the same situation than Neo6920 (internet game worked once only a few weeks ago and is now impossible).

I hope to get a support from Stardock about this very blocking issue.

I had the exact same experience with two pals last night. We had not played this particular game in months, but last night we tried and had one good game before the same problem described above ended our evening.

We tried re-installing the game, tweaking firewalls and NAT settings, but could not longer make it work.

I would love to hear of any possible solutions or additional troubleshooting ideas.

I was able to get it work eventually. I had to uninstall it. Remove it from the firewall list.. Reinstall it. Add it and STARDOCK LAUNCHER to the firewall. Then I played it in a multiplayer ranked game. Lose the game. Then sometime in the next 24-48 hours it automatically updated on Steam. After that - it worked fine.
