galciv1 not (properly) launching

from Stardock Forums

When I'm launching galciv1 from Steam, the game window does not appear.  The task manager only shows a background "Gal Civ (32 bit)" process (GalCiv.exe).  It is shown in Steam as running, and trying to stop it from there does not work, it has to be killed from task manager.

I could not find any log in windows events, or in appdata. Any idea where to look ?

Thanks, I had not found that page.

 

For GalCiv itself, I tried successively:

* set compatibility mode for colors

* run setup as normal user

* run dart_setup as normal user

After that last step GalCiv started and seems to run fine.

AltarianProphecy also starts, but only displays a black screen and stops after a couple of seconds.

Setting compatibility mode for its exe too finishes the job.
