The Video Game Machine Gets Early Access Release Date for Steam
Players can join Steam Early Access on August 15th to create, play, and share video games of their own
The Video Game Machine Arrives for Steam Early Access on October 10!
Stardock announced the early access date to its new sandbox game, The Video Game Machine, today. In it, players can create, play, share, and download video games.
The game is set during the 8-bit console era with the popular genres of the day to choose from. The early access version includes platformers and adventure games with additional genres being added as development continues.
"If you play games, odds are you’ve wanted to try making one too," said lead designer Scott Tykoski. "The Video Game Machine is a game that lets you pick a genre, choose some rules, and unleash your inner game designer."
The game includes hundreds of sprites, musical scores, and sound effects. After choosing their genre, players can set up what rules the game will follow using common game mechanics of the given genre from that era.
“We want anyone who has ever wanted to try to make a game to try this,” said Tykoski. “The game has been designed to be easy enough that anyone can create their own games while still having enough power that savvy gamers can create truly unique games with it. We want to make sure that everyone is having a good time and that the process for creating is as intuitive as we want it to be.”
The Video Game Machine includes a built in arcade of pre-made games that players can play or edit. Any player can add games they created to the Arcade for others to play.
The Video Game Machine will be available for Steam Early Access on October 10th for $14.99. For more information, visit the Stardock forums or www.TheVGM.com.
