Feedback So Far

First of all I'd like to say I haven't completed all missions yet (this is my first tower defence game too), but here's my thoughts on some issues and things I'd like to see implemented. I know there's a lot listed here, but I'm enjoying the game a lot. I'll update this thread as I play more.

Edit: I've finished all the missions now and I've updated the post.

1. The slow panning at the beginning is a bit annoying and sometimes it feels like the panning has acceleration and deceleration.

2. Lack of voice acting, but I assume this'll be added in the future.

3. Archives are incomplete (I like the idea of it and the back stories for the characters)

4. The Icarus SAM has the wrong icon.

5. Helios Beacon has no icons.

6. Scavenger Module has no icons.

7. Milton has no vision on dark maps (maybe that's intentional.)

8. Milton's move icon doesn't look finished.

9. One button/key to instantly pause would be nice.

10. Can't seem to see the health of the metal refineries (maybe I'm missing something obvious).

11. The Abomination's explosion effect had a lot of artifacts and gave massive FPS drops. 

12. One mission didn't finish, it thought there were a few enemies remaining.

13. I'd like to be able to zoom out more.

14. Mini map would be nice.

15. Mouse cursor is a bit small in 4K, mouse cursor scale like Ashes would be useful.

16. It's not always obvious where the first wave will come from.

17. Mission 4 has a typo in the description, it should say "Distant paths which require new strategies to defend" instead of "Distant paths with require new strategies to defend".

18. Minos Cannon should say it has a "long recharge" instead of "long recoil".

19. Waves start to spawn before I've had a good look at the map.

20. The Amplifier is missing the percentage symbol after 20 in the build menu.

21. The Amplifier's model looks a little "dark" in comparison to other models.

22. The upgrade icon overlapping the building icon doesn't look great.

23. I'm not sure how to feel about the cyan/blue icons, I'd nearly prefer the way they're done in Ashes.

24. If you click on a building that has an upgrade, the upgrade icon stays up if you select an enemy unit immediately after.

25. The Metal Refinery has the wrong icon.

26. The single unit of Masochist is using the Punisher's icon.

26. The Masochist unit that's comprised of three has the Reaper's name displayed and has the Punisher's icon too.

27. The Overmind's icon appears to be backwards.

28. The air transports were having trouble navigating on the last map.

29. Stats on weapons and units should be easier to see.

30. I'd like to upgrade multiple turrets at once.

31. Metal received from scavenger should change depending on the unit that's destroyed.

32. Nexus icons are off on most if not all maps.

33. The minimap (map preview) is unfinished for missions 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12.

34. Wave of Reapers got stuck at spawn point on mission 5 after EMP orbital was used (was away from the spawn point though, maybe unrelated). Some couldn't be hit as a result.

35. Would be nice to cancel buildings that have been placed while paused.

36. The stats bars for the Icarus and Falcon anti airs are the same, even though their stats are different.

37. Corrupted healers are annoying to deal with.

38. Martyr wave entry point in the wrong place on mission 6.

39. I'd like it to be easier to see where exactly building can be placed.

40. Turrets can't be built on platform at the north entrance on mission 9.

41. Better looking shields would be nice.

42. Last wave on mission 11 only shows a Dreadnought, but also has Reapers coming from all 3 sides and Punishers from the north.

43. The overcharge orbital is much more effective if the game is paused while it's applied (gives extreme fire rate to some, if not all turrets).

44. Icons on the mini map for metal refineries would be good.

45. Humming/buzzing sounds of some Substrate T1 units are too loud and are quite noticeable when paused.

46. Mission 12 description and map shown in the preview need to be updated.

47. I think the reinforce orbital should have less units and buff the remaining ones to compensate.

This was removed from all missions but Limbo in yesterdays update.

Definitely, we are focusing on game play first. But I'm so glad to hear you are checking them out.

You mean the selected portrait. Yes we need to add one.

5. Helios Beacon has no icons.

Helios Beacon was removed from the game.

6. Scavenger Module has no icons.

Yes we need to add a selected portrait for it.

It was intentional, but dark maps have been removed.

8. Milton's move icon doesn't look finished.

True, it's on the list.

Space bar or the pause button pauses/unpauses the game.

Good point. I will see if we can get that added to the stats.

I think you are probably right, ill play with it.

Added (and you are right, it made a big difference).

Agreed, we need to update that.

Minimap helps with this. You can also mouseover the wavepanel icon to see where all waves will come from.

Short term, you can pause to checkout the map.

Long term we are going to change it so you don't start accumulating metal, radioactives and no spawns start until you either place a tower, use an orbital or hit rush. That way players can checkout the map.

You are right, I'll ask an artist to check it out.

We updated this last week so it didn't overlap as much.

You mean the portraits? We are going to play with a different treatment.

In yesterdays patch we added an improved breakdown for abilities and weapons.

Hold shift to select multiple at once and hit the upgrade button.

31. Metal received from scavenger should change depending on the unit that's destroyed.

Yeah, we need to play with balance here. Scavenger tower is currently godlike when you are slaughtering reaper hordes and nearly useless against bigger enemies.

32. Nexus icons are off on most if not all maps.

You are right, I'll check it out.

We noticed this too. We had a fix for it, but had to revert it before yesterdays update because the fix broke some other things.

We don't currently have any plans to do this.

There hit points have been decreased significantly in yesterdays update.

38. Marty wave entry point in the wrong place on mission 6.

Looks right in the current build.

We are working on this. Agreed its a bit frustrating right now. In an earlier version of the game there were specific points where you could place towers. But it was much more fun to allow players to place where they wanted. We just have to make it less fidgity.

Should be fixed in yesterdays update.

I probably should just make a new post after each update, think my post ended up being unnecessarily confusing. I put a strikethrough on anything fixed or if I figured something out after a bit more playtime.

Just after playing through the eight missions with the new update. I really like the changes made to them, great to see you guys take everyone's feedback and implement changes so fast.

Yeah, it's the portraits I wouldn't be a big fan of. I think the Gliding Crane's portrait in the archives looks nicer than the others and I'd be fine with the units in game using that style.

I don't think the Gliding Crane or Abomination are currently in any missions, so I'll just wait for the next update or I'll put them in myself if I get the time.

The artifacting is less frequent now and has way less of an effect on FPS, but I've seen it happen sometimes with the Nexus, Clutch of Eggs and the Heart of The Phoenix's Egg.

With that said, I guess it's time to annoy you with more of my observations :P

  • The Retributor portrait appears to be backwards too.
  • Preview for mission eight needs to be updated.
  • The upgrades for the scavenger are gone. (maybe intentional)
  • Health for the fission reactor isn't visible.
  • Gamecore changes need to invalidate leaderboard scores.
  • Sometimes the visual for the overcharge ability carries over from one mission to another.
  • Walking animations need to be improved.

I'll update this post if I find anything else and when I narrow down which SS T1 unit's sounds in particular I have issue with. Edit: The Reaper is definitely one of them
