confess to using pirate WB

I must confess that i came across Window Blinds thru a bootleg copy of the software.I quickly became enthused with the product and decided to try a skin myself. After spending a lot of time at the wincustomize website i feel i have found my internet home.I decided that i must contribute to this neat product and skinning community. What an interesting internet subculture.I will be purchasing this product.I apologize for using the pirate version at all.If this gets me temporarily barred i understand.I have customers of my own who havnt paid so it may be a week or two.

I think its brave of you to tell this in public, and nobody will blame you if you purchase the full version, or stop using it..., atleast I wont

I.R. Brainiac...I don't see this as a problem, but more as a 'win' for an 'alternate source' of exposure to Stardock's product actually culminating in a new customer/subscription. I won't be chastizing you about your path of discovery as its destination is what matters most...

{Of course, I'm a non-Stardock Admin, and I suspect others may be less enamoured, so I suggest getting 'legitimate' sooner, rather than later]...

This public annoucement is either the stupidest, or the bravest thing I seen in a while.........  I'm not sure which.
Either way, listen to Jafo, and get this sorted quickly.............. all will be well, I'm sure.

ps......  I don't mean stupid for confessing, it's great you've done that.......... but I probably would have kept it to myself, until after I had purchased the program.

It's only stupid if he doesn't actually buy it.  It probably would have been better if he would have purchased and then told his story....now I will be looking at his access level to make sure it doesn't stay at a "2".

Personally, since my paycheck is made possible by the sale of products, I care not to hear about the piracy that happens.  I wish people would realize that software sales actually provide incomes to people the same way their job provides them an income.  I guess the typical pirate doesn't care, though.

I have just klined another one from the IRC server. You wonder why people would come to Stardock's IRC server and beg for a serial. Such guys are not a very smart, are they?

no not really, IRC das show ip addresses.... If I was stardock I would hunt them down!

Actually I got started myself using a public version of Windowblinds with a serial number I got off a warez site. The public version had some limitations and I felt kind of guilty for using it without paying, so I eventually bought a full version of Windowblinds from Stardock. Later I purchased Object Desktop because I wanted to customize my desktop even further.

My first copy of WB was a crudely constructed replica made from cardboard and cheese.
Sadly the cheese wouldn't stick to the monitor properly, and for the brief minutes that it would, I'd have to slide it around when I moved a window. Thus came about the purchase of my copy......

What was did the cardboard do Hippy?

@ Hippy

Doomgaze, its posible to find someones name, addres and all that stuff by just 1 ip, I am sure it would scare them to death if you would send them a small briefcard with: Pirated software is illegal, next time we will take actions against you

How many people you gonna send them to styl?

1?
10?
1000?
100,000?

Before I ever discovered Windowblinds and Object Desktop, I was using very limited desktop themes that worked natively in Windows 98 such as the ones found at http://www.themeworld.com

many have said things of a positive nature which I ascribe to also on this topic and I can only add that I hope it will hold true across the full spectrum of products you find useful .

Doomgaze, that's true, but it should learn them, if the people who you did send them to buy the official program, you do make a nice profit.

Listen to Koa and Jafo. Though I must say I feel like I'm at a gospel convention and a sinner has just "seen the light".

But er, thank you Brainiac for helping to fund Karma's paycheck.

More than likely, styl, you'll just scare them and they won't go near the product.

Nobody would take a "this is a threat, but if you buy our product, we'll stop" seriously.

i guess its a good thing I don't like WB. As for pirated software, check my computer. You'll find none.
Well, that probably has to do with nobody would bother warez'ing mac software, nobody wants it...

@ Doomgaze

Everyone wants it, but almost noone can run it .... Now if Apple would only move onto x86 chips *dreaming*

Aqua: Let's hope Apple stays away from the PC forever. They already screwed up the best operating system (NeXTStep) and we don't want them to screw up the worst even more.
