Is there seriously no hope?

Is there seriously no hope for official support for Windows 10 with ObjectDock?  I mean, I can understand the whole not having wanted to support it when it was still in preview back in 2015, but it's 2018 now, nearly 2019, and Windows 10 is a full-fledged, released OS now.  According to Microsoft, this could be the last 'version' of Windows as we know it.

People who use Windows 10 (myself included) want a decent experience on the OS we use for software we actually give a crap to pay for.  There are plenty of sources I personally (and for that matter, most people who use ObjectDock who paid for it) could have just as easily gotten a cracked version of the software.  We chose to support you guys, the developers.  Now, I don't know about you, but I feel that counts for something, or at least, it should.  And the fact that we get a subpar experience from the software just because we use a version of Windows that you apparently have no other reason for not supporting other than you simply don't feel like it is kind of a kick to the teeth if you ask me.  I must have missed the point in time where paying customers stopped mattering to a business.

I can only speak for myself. Win 10 Ver 1809 latest build. OD works perfectly for me. Ver 1.90 Plus. Build 535u. I think the way OD works may vary from machine to machine.

Make sure you're using the newest OD release or it won't work right.. and, of course, graphics drivers up to date & windows.  I just recently swapped from a geforce gtx960 to a 1060 and *fingers crossed, it's working without a hitch.

I had not been able to use it in the past but, somewhere along the way those issues were updated well enough to have it running fine again.  Hope that helps.. let us know.

Well, all I know is, I have an FX-8350 (@ stock 4.0 GHz), 24 GB of RAM, an RX 560 (4GB) (latest drivers), and even at the lowest performance settings, with only one QuickLaunch dock, ObjectDock is sluggish to respond when moused over.  Now, granted, I do have several Stacks, and a fair few icons on the dock, but RocketDock, which is what I used before I got ObjectDock, never had any of those issues, even with the same icon and docklet load.  And it was freeware, not to mention, running off of a mechanical hard disk.  The reason I chose to buy ObjectDock in the first place is that it offered several features that RocketDock didn't; among which are icon reflections and a built-in weather docklet (which I've come to find out doesn't even work anymore).  But it's not just that that I find as integral to the 'subpar' experience; it's the fact that there is an issue (the ApplicationHostFrame.exe background process being pegged as a running foreground program, and therefore perpetually 'running' on the dock) that has been known to exist since 2015, and still has yet to be rectified.  I am running the latest downloadable version of ObjectDock from the StarDock website, and this 3-year-old issue is still present.  Back in 2015 the developers considered Windows 10 a 'beta OS', which, at that point, they were justified in their classification, and they chose to leave that issue as it was.  It's now three years later, and they still haven't fixed it.  They've had plenty of time to do so, so it's not an issue of Windows 10 being too new.  StarDock clearly has support in applications for Windows 10, Start10 is concrete proof of that, so why ObjectDock was left by the wayside in that respect remains a mystery to me.  ObjectDock works on Windows 10, true enough, but its use on Windows 10 is not officially supported by StarDock.  I've seen this actually posted by one of the StarDock team on at least a couple of occasions.  And according to the 'StarDock Software and Windows 10' forum post, ObjectDock is listed as 'No' under the 'Compatible?' heading.  That was posted in 2016, but there's been no official update that I'm aware of that has addressed any of the issues that had arisen with Windows 10 that have been reported.

You're right on those points there.  I still use RocketDock as my bottom dock and have been trying out ObjectDock since it decided to work for me.. as a top dock.  I'm not using the reflections or any live features of it though since I suspected those had to do with my prior issues running it.

And, I agree that it's been frustrating not having development continue for Win10.  I had to stop using CursorFX for that reason and have just gone to using mouse pointers that can natively be installed.  Sorry that ObjectDock isn't playing nice.. hoped that a simple update would fix it for you but, am thinking you might be able to use if if you try it without the live features.. dunno.

Either way, best of luck to you.  I certainly understand your frustrations in this regard.

Since ObjectDock only works on some 10 computers a lot of people went to Winstep Nexus Dock. It does the same thing as OD and a lot more. https://www.winstep.net/nexus.asp and there is a thread here on WinCustomize to read up about it https://forums.wincustomize.com/490867/page/1/#replies

I bought OD same as a lot of people. Back then it was a good buy but today it kinda falls by the wayside as opposed to Nexus Dock. Because of OD's instabilities with respect to Win 10 and the loss of the weather docklet it just made sense to move on. Constantly berating the higher ups @ Stardock serves no useful purpose. Move on and be done with it.

I've just downloaded a copy to give it a check too.

I do realize that Stardock is focusing a lot of their energy on this new gaming engine that actually sounds kinda revolutionary.  But, not being a big gamer, I'm only somewhat interested in that side of their business at present.

Yeah, I said it out loud.. I'm not a big gamer. *chuckling  Oh well.

Thanks for the pointer.. I'll be having a good look at the Nexus dock. It sounds pretty amazing in it's own right. Punk software is going other directions and basically shelved RocketDock, Nexus is encouraging to find out about now.. though I'd noticed bits about it in passing before.. it wasn't what I was looking for so I skimmed by and kept digging on whatever it was I was researching.

..ramble over. Thx.!

That's a nice desktop.  Reminds me of the days when I was using Konfabulator .. sure wish that Yahoo hadn't taken it and then tossed it by the side of the road but, that's what happens when non-techs get into things they should stay out of.

I'm definitely having a look at their site now and trying out the dock already.  I like that it had a matching skin for the old wblinds I'm using again after having forgotten about it.. the Dragon theme.  I had to redesign the start button so it'd behave.. made it fit within the taskbar instead of how it was originally designed since it didn't play nice in Win10. ;-)   Anyway, thanks for sharing.. I like to see active customization still going strong.

Bit of a necro, but thanks for the Winstep link.  I, too, bought OD back in the day because I thought it was going to be actively developed, not abandoned and this Winstep looks to be the next 'step' in this type of dock's evolution.

Chuck, I can't seem to get 1.90 Plus to even install.  2.x locks up on me on 10, and the icon mouseover text goes behind the dock.

In my opinion, stardock should answer customers with ''We're updating OD'' or ''We have abandoned OD''

That's simple, just answer so we can make a decision.

They already have. There is not going to any update to OD. The only other dock is Winstep Nexus dock. See reply #5.
