Planetary Invasions

Does anyone know which of the advanced invasion tactics is most effective? How effective are they? That's Tidal Disruption and Core Detonation. And can they be neutralized like the three tactics that come earlier in the tech tree? The wiki doesn't have complete info. Hard to believe this game does not have an option for siegeing and slowly weakening an enemy planet. Anything I'm overlooking?

Yeah; Bombardment Shelters (under Defensive Focus) makes your planets immune to Planetary Bombardment. Not only that, but if the AI gets lucky and picks the immunity to the invasion type you've chosen under Invasion Tactics, you're stuck; you can't go back and pick one of the others. What the heck were these developers thinking?? I'm playing a game where I can't subdue the last Drengin planet. It's three legions defeated an attack by three transports. (How can that even be...at >10-to-1 odds!!) Plus it is immune to the bombardment tactic I chose a few turns back. At a time that score leader Krynn is attacking me w/ determination, I can't get clear of this last Drengin outpost. It's tying up way too many of my assets and bending my strategy out of shape. Not a satisfying game experience, considering the poor design feature. In light of this game's long history, it's surprising to keep bumping into bad design features (such as no quick save, only two autosaves, two-to-three times the mouse clicks to manage your planets as Endless Space 2, etc.).

Sometimes with a lot of transports, it works to hit your target with 2 or 3 transports at a time and attrit your enemy down a bit. Then hit them with a massive fleet.

Had a similar situation that you described, the attrition worked wonders in 3 invasions (same turn) wearing them down. Because when I hit them all at once... got the DEFEAT! blurb

I *believe* that you can trade for other invasion tactics and defenses, but obviously what you said holds in 1v1 or where you've killed all the other players.

Good suggestion, one that frankly I didn't think of. But in this particular game, the planetary federation voted to suspend tech trading.

The attrition suggestion sounds intriguing. Will start a new game (large map, gifted difficulty, custom race), and test methodologies.

This is why you wait to see what the AI researches before choosing certain techs. I have yet to encounter the AI to research all three techs between all members of the galaxy. Not for warfare related techs anyway.
