Will Crusade have a battle arena mode?

This is a feature I've wanted for a long time. Considering how GalCiv3 has a very elaborate ship designer, I think having a quick and easy way for us to test designs in battle would be a natural feature to compliment it. Although I'm impressed by what some are able/willing to do with the designer, personally I consider using it to be a bit of a chore as it is, and would never consider doing anything fancy with it simply because waiting for ships to become available over the course of a game (or else fussing around with a bunch of console commands) to see how they perform is too low a work/fun ratio for my tastes. But I would definitely use it, and probably enjoy the game more too, in general, if I could step directly into the fireworks, so to speak... i.e. spend a few minutes creating a couple of fleets of my own design (or any I might choose) and then sit back with a beer and pretzels and enjoy the show.

I have asked for that as well.  My workaround for designing is to keep a late game save around for designing purposes.  Just remember to save after designing and you can design away. The ships are there for your next game.  It is still not easy to arrange a fully fleeted battle viewer battle.  And I can't count on the AI to cooperate, of course.  They are always doing something disagreeable.  It's like they were coded that way, or maybe they're disgruntled teenagers.  :)

Considering that a battle viewer would be a big thing, I would have expected them to be touting it loudly along with other features, which makes me feel that we won't be seeing a battle arena with Crusades.  If I am wrong, then they are keeping it for a surprise, and probably won't say anything about it until release.  It's a thin hope, but it's the best I can offer.

Thanks, erischild. For testing purposes it would be a real time saver, though I think it would be popular for the shear entertainment value alone. There's a slough of things I'm looking forward to in Crusade but this along with an overhaul of the viewer itself are among my top wished for improvements. :)
