Galactic Civilization 1 GOG Key doesn't work

I recently purchased Galactic Civilization 1 on gog.com and they provided a game key for the game but it doesn't let me add the key on my stardock account. The old galactic civs site seems to not let you login or register so it seems as if the metaverse won't work for me as a result. Is there a way to get my gog.com key converted to let me register it on stardock and also why is metaverse disabled :-/. Please help--thanks!
