Daily Challenge tweak

I realise that this in all probability won't be an idea you havn't had and won't be top of your agenda before launch however:

I think taking inspiraton from the typical 'find the best move/mate in x moves' chess puzzles could add some much needed interest to the daily challenge. Instead of starting at square one and really just being another skirmish against ai start us with 100k debt and a badly laid out colony or in a three way at level 5 when half our shares have been bought. Can you stabilize and win from this position would be more interesting and a better learning prospect than yet another way to play skirmish.

I understand this would require a lot more work to set every day but I'm sure you could farm it out to the community if there was a basic map editor. It would be a lot more involving to finally get your custom scenario chosen or pick up a gauntlet that cubit or zultar had thrown down

I know custom scenarios are possible with the current XML structure, though I'm not sure if pre-founded colonies/pre-placed buildings are. Those sorts of scenarios could be an interesting way to add some more bulk to the single-player experience, but I'm not sure how much additional work they'd take to implement. Either way, I'm not sure a more involved challenge like that is really appropriate for dailies from an effort-exposure standpoint. Having a really good scenario limited to a daily would be a shame, after all.

That said, I agree that dailies can get a bit dull over time because even though maps and settings change, the basic outline of the strategy needed doesn't really change, in part because the AIs don't adapt as well as good players. Throwing in some of the modifiers that appear in the campaign (free extra buildings, no adjacency, etc) could add some variety to dailies without requiring too much new stuff to be implemented (probably). DeathTacticus and others have brought this up as well, but a longer-term leaderboard for dailies could also help keep those engaging. I'm not sure how it would value relative times or ranks (or missing some dailies), but yeah.

I take your point, it would indeed be a lot of effort to make something so disposable and worrying about a map editor/archive of user created content is far down the list of priorities if release is this year-I can wait for otc 2!
