No ships in battle viewer or ship design after ver 1.6 update

After the automatic ver 1.6 update I loss all ship graphics for battle viewer and ship design.  I thought  buying  the new expansion would help, but the problem persists.  Has anybody

else encountered this problem?

I tried verifying the integrity of the game cache to no avail.  Game cache had two corrupted files that had to be repaired.   Still no ships in combat viewer or ship design.  I'm going to have to fire up Distant Worlds and try to learn to play that convolluted monstrosity.  So far its never crashed on me.

Can you rename your My Doc/My Games/GalCiv3 folder to GalCiv3.old and the verify the game again. Then launch it and see if they show up. (You can copy over your saves if you wish to jump into a game to see if they show up in the battle viewer then)

Thanks.   I'll try this tonight and report back.

I tried renaming dir to galciv3.old and recopied some saved games into new saved game dir.  Verified integrity of cache and was all good.  Loaded up old saved game and new version saved games and had no graphic of ship in design ship.  Tried a brand new game with new expansion and no ships.  Guess I just don't get any pretty graphics of ships.  Next step is delete and reinstall game?  fiddlesticks

Try carrying over the designs from the old directory.

  1. Copying old  ship designs into new dir did not help.  I assume the next step is to delete all local content and reinstall?

IMHO, yes.  Your debug data may be different (be sure to run the support tool and attach file to ticket)

Ticket TQL-609-29401

Downloaded and installed  the most current driver (2013) for video card  and copied custom low performance prefs.ini file into galciv3 dir.  The video problem did not resolve.  Looks like my ASUS notebook is too old to run ver 1.6.  Its a Intel i3 with 8GB Ram with Intel video card.  I have a 22 inch monitor plugged into the notebook that is an improvement over the standard 15 inch built in monitor.  Stardock thanks for the help and support in figuring out that I had an obsolete video card.  To bad there is not a way for me to go back to pre ver 1.6, but this is one more reason to buy a new computer.

Stardock told me the problem was my old video card. Worked fine up until 1.5 then tanked. Have t see if my computer will support a newer card. At least I know what the problem is.

Okay, got a new video card and all seems well. Question - stardock sent me a file to minimize all my settings. Is there one to change them back to normal?

Thanks.

If you had created an galciv3.old dir while troubleshooting, you should have a copy of the high performance prefs.ini there. I would think you can just copy and replace the custom one in your current galciv3 dir.

I had the same problem. the only thing that fixed it was to upgrade my Graphics card.

If nothing else, find the the prefs.ini file and remove or rename it.  Let the game build a new prefs.ini.

Brute force method: move the whole GalCiv folder and let Steam rebuild it.
