Crash back to Steam Window

Try to restart Ashes (beta or 64bit) and error comes up 'Game is already running'

Been playing for quite some time now and just today out of the blue all but one game (single player vs normal bot) has crashed. No error, no hint just screen goes black then back to Steam game launch window. I then have to completely shut steam down to restart Ashes or it says the game is already running  >_>  I have only been able to play one game all the way through to victory today (out of about 6-7 games)

Happens to me too.

At least you can see a Direct X Diagnose process running right after the crash.

So hopefully the devs have an automatic error log for this! =)

I think it might be because of steam update that added experimental support for DX12 steam overlay. It crashed the game for me as well. Disabled it and crashing has stopped.

Sorry I should have mentioned that you can "see" this diagnostic in the Task Manager. It's only visible as a process and disappears a few seconds after the crash.

I did some looking into this and in single player you can turn on the terrain visibility and the games that crash the AI doesn't do much.  The AI basically takes one point and then stagnates.  Those games crash several minutes later.

On a flip side what did you do to the AI?  In the games I have managed that did not crash the AI is now building Dreadnaughts basically at the start.  The current state of the game is either an AI that doesn't do anything 70% of the time, an AI that seems to have unlimited resources 25% of the time and the old AI 5% of the time.

Good to know, thanks. I don't bother reading the Steam patch notes so hadn't noticed that. Worth keeping an eye on.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this problem. Can you download and run the tool below:

http://sd.stardock.com/Support/supportToolTest/SDSupportTool.exe

Then attach the .zip that's created and send it in with a ticket to support. With your ticket, if you could also link to this forum post, it would be most helpful:
