What really needs to be done

GalCiv3 has a extreme performance issues with long games on big maps. Play a game on an extremely large map with many opponents, and eventually, the game will fill your RAM and make your CPU's busy to the point that you cannot play the game safely any more. It will even struggle to move your space ships without interrupting the music. Time between turns increases, the game will stutter all the time, and eventually, it will crash.

This needs to be fixed.

Apart from that, it is a great game as-is, though some espionage mechanics would be nice and one thing I would love to have is a tracking of a planet's population per species: If Terrans successfully invade an Iconian planet, the population afterwards will be a mixture of Terrans and Iconians, and the game should track that. Likewise, tourism, trade and the like will add some minorities to all kinds of planets, with the minorty only partially helping to defend the planet against their "own" government, etc.

Still learning this game, but it is addicting.

I agree that starbases are a pain to manage and takeaway from the fun of the game. I think there should be a starbase tab on the government management screen. Basically beyond the first constructor you should be able to have the AI auto manage it. The logic would be, is a module available? Yes, send contructor every turn (rapid), every other turn (quick), every third tun (average), every 5th turn (slow), every 6th turn (very slow). The constructor would be built at the nearest available starbase, as is the case now (from what I've seen). Also, I'd like to be able to designate on this screen the constructor ship design that would be built rather than the single module, slowest drive ship (unless I am missing something) that the request constructor feature currently defaults too.

Also, the AI should give more thought to building starbases for resources and actually use them!

The starbase handling is going to get a full overhaul in 1.6 (I think it's 1.6). I totally agree. It's very annoying.

is 1.6 the expansion due in Feb?

IT won't be in the February release. If that's 1.6 then it's 1.7 (going by memory).  It'll be in the March/April update.

Frogboy, I think there was another thread Herr which talked about the ideology choice glitches.

Wow, wasn't expecting this! It hasn't been a major complaint of mine at all but yes, it can get annoying on those large maps mid-late game... Good to hear! Thanks for the news.
