Fleets neither remember there name, nor orders when ships are added to them.

Exactly what it says in the title. A bit annoying.

I have found that sometimes a fleet will remember its name when a ship is added but sometimes not.

Highly annoying, especially since any new ship I design now is an invisible black square in the shipyard and in the fleet box.

If you add a ship to a named fleet....check the named one first and then on second task the single ship's one. Then hit join...  B)

Ships auto-join fleets they land on. I don't see a setting to change this.

Agreed, unless Skukkuk is simply providing a strat to make sure you remember the fleet name prior to it being 'defaulted'.  Seems kinda in the 'duh' category tho.

With respect, not exclusively. Remember if you send a stack of ships which are exceeding the limit. Then you manually join ships into other fleets.

Stardock should probably set a flag that says "this fleet was manually named", then preserve that name no matter what happens to the fleet.  Or let us designate a particular ship to be the fleet commander, and attach the name to it.

Personally, I don't bother naming fleets as we:

  • Don't have a way to search for fleets by name in the ship list
  • Ship crews don't gain XP
