SUGGESTION: Add a minimap to the Starbase and Colony screens

One of the things that keeps getting on my nerves is when I click the 'upgrade starbase' or 'idle colony' buttons and then have absolutely no idea where I am in the universe. I regularly use the button, then immediately exit the screen so I can check where I am.

Both of these screens have vast amounts of unused space. I honestly don't need to have 90% of my screen populated with a picture of a starbase. A small (or even openable) zoomable minimap within these screens would let me check my rough position within the empire and so save me ten seconds of mucking about. Please can we have one?

A very good idea. And if it added the names of any planets in the starbase's economic sphere (if it is economic) that would be even better to decide which upgrades to apply.

Definitely a good idea. If I may slightly hijack the OP, I would also suggest something similar be implemented in the diplomatic screen: it is quite annoying to trade a ship, or a starbase, without knowing where it is located

I am not 100% sure but I think this can be modded...

I will take a look at it...

Would love to see how, keep us posted

I suspect it kind-of can through alterations to the GC\Screens files. I don't think these can be used from the mod directory, though, and would need to be done within the base game directory itself.

I for one would be willing to do (actually use, as not smart enough to "do")  this worry about future update incorporation as they come

Naselus; are you going to give this a try?

I'll take a look at the relevant files.

This was asked for in GC2 and in the betas for GC3.  It's a great idea that I'd love to have, whether it's done by Stardock or by a mod.
