HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY EVERYONE.

Yes I know we celebrate it on the 4th. But I won't likely be here. So have a Good safe one.

All non-citizens of the USA can safely ignore this

By no means can they ignore this. I am the founding member of everyone should take everyone else's holidays off too. Of course that means we all work about two days a year but that sounds about right to me. When's the next Kiwi holiday I'm taking off?

I remember being very peeved in school that the Jewish kids I went to school with got to have their own holidays off _AND_ didn't have to go to school over Christmas and Easter. Chinese New Year resulted in half the school not turning up (:(. The teachers didn't take too kindly to it when I suggested I should be able to stay home for Pesach.

Bah. I think Americans overreact to holiday mania. There is no nationally mandated paid vacation time for Americans, so instead of keeping the holidays few and special and take a couple of long breaks when it really counts, we use any excuse to duck work.

Wild exaggeration mode: Look, it's Ground Hog day! Three day weekend!

Back to being serious: Even China has 15 paid days off on the books. France has 25 days. A lot of countries have mandatory paid vacation days in the law books.

Now don't get me wrong. Independence Day is a very, very important holiday for the USA. In fact, it should be right up there with whatever primary religious holiday an American citizen observes. But this habit of making everything a holiday for everyone just because no one gets decent paid vacation time has to change. Too bad the retail sector will never let that happen. They are the ones who started this trend to make new markets in the first place, as in Valentine's Day. Mother's Day, and Father's Days being turned from simple occasions into total market hype. Not to mention Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Dammit crushbone, you beat me to it ;P.

Kinda reminds me of the game I'm playing right now- any day now, the Torians are going to blow up the Whitehouse, time to start a new game.

oh and Jamie, WTH is Pesach? I assume it isn't mechwarrior related ;P.

To Gera: if you think thats bad, go on google and search for information on "Golden week" -I think thats what its called-. The Japanese go even more nuts than we are for holidays like Christmas, and their Christian population is like one percent of their total ;P.

Sephlock:
Pesach is another name for Passover.
Happy 4th everyone! :D
Not to get too serious; but on this 4th lets all try to remember and celebrate what this country and our Constitution stand for, not the things America does or has done in the past. (:(
And don't forget: NO DRINKING AND DRIVING >:(
Happy whatever you celebrate :CONGRAT:

Passover eh? Why don't you try tossing some lamb's blood on the teacher's door and see if that changes her tune.

I'll mail printouts of the latest posts on this forum to the county jail so you won't fall behind.

I don't know if my fellow veteran here is speaking the truth, but I agree wholeheartedly. Wave the flag? I wore it.

Rejoice on this day of rebellion! Long live the democracy! ...the republic? ...capitalism? ...federalism? ...the welfare state? It doesn't matter! Have a slurpee and a hotdog everyone! :CONGRAT:

(edit: i hate it when i misspell)
