Galaxy Setup Questions

Hi,

I've recently picked up galciv 3 and have been enjoying learning the game.  Before I commit to a long game I'd like to get some suggestions/advice on how I should set up my galaxy.

Here is what I am currently leaning towards

Size: Immense

Type: scattered

Stars: abundant

Number of planets: abundant

Habitable planets: rare

Inhospitable planets: common

Asteroids: common

Anomalies: rare

Pirates: occasional

The main thing I was wondering was how many opponents should I put in? I will go with abundant minors, not sure about how many npc factions to add. I've acquired plenty of user made ones to populate the galaxy, but I'm having difficulty figuring out the balance.

I don't want it to be so cluttered that I'm constantly running into new races (keep some feeling of empty space) but at the same time I don't want each faction to have a ton of planets under their control (I was hoping the rare habitable and inhospitable planets would help counterbalance that)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

With that many asteroids you will get TONS of Durantium. I would drop down one or two on them. Also the extreme ones are going to pop up a bit more I suggest 'uncommon' on those.

I play on just about the same settings. A 'scattered' galaxy will typically give you a smooth/even distribution of stars and planets. Fun if you want to bump into the Ai earlier, if not go with 'loose clusters to give you some breathing space between other ai.

I put Pirates on Rare or none. Currently they are more of a nuisance to both the ai and me than 'fun' so I keep them low or off. Once they get a dlc for them where we can bargain/trade and leverage them against others or them against the player then Ill pump em back up.

I like relics set to uncommon, but I play a race with Ancient so its a tad overpowered.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for the speedy reply!

That's an interesting point about the durantium, I never would have known that.

If I may ask, how many opponents do you play with?

I have all the regular and all minors I add 6 more to make a total including me of 15 majors on an Insane map. With Rare Rare that will give you about 20-35 planets before you bump into another Civ.

Get some of factions on Steam. I HIGHLY recommend getting the Borg. They are kicking ass in my game.

Your choices look good to me but I can't say on the common inhospitable. I haven't played that setting and I would be concerned that it would eat into the already rare setting for habitables.
