What happened to all the stars and usable planets with 1.02?

Title says it all. WTF happened to them all and why on earth would you want them all scattered like that? I am sorry but the starting colony ship should NOT BE OUT OF RANGE of any usable planets.

Well... yeah. I'm with you on this one.

Fortunately, opt-in patches are for getting feedback like this so they can fix it before the live version. Frogboy did say the sweet spot for this was probably in the middle of where it was and where it is.

At this point I just wish I can op out of this "patch" because as of now I can not even play the game. If they are going to thin out the stars like this then they need to make it where EVERY star has a usable planet.

You -can- opt out of the patch. You had to opt-in to get it in the first place.

I like expansive play fields and massive empires.  I really dislike the 1.02 update.  If they're going to nerf the playing field this bad I'll probably opt out of the game not just the updates.

Remember guys, it's in testing and given the feedback I'm sure they'll address it.

Silverchair came by and put a Frogstomp on our massive empires. Boooooo!!!!

Croak to the heavens that the mighty Frog of goodness will come and lift the nerf hammer placed unjustly on our expansive empires of gloriousness!!! Tiny empires are for tiny settings.

There's been a lot of discussion and analysis over this this thread about this: https://forums.galciv3.com/466422

Admittedly some of it is by Your Truly and I don't want to repeat it all. ;)  But the upshot is, things look fine on maps to, oh let's say Large. But after that, it gets hairy.  The actual dividing line might be up to personal preference, but I don't think planet generation is porportional as the map sizes increase.

The next thing I might do over in that thread is compare the range of usuable planets generated to tiles and see what the ratios are.  Unless someone does that for me. ;)

Little help please. I didn't "opt-In" to 1.02. The game updated by itself. I'm actually happy about this, because it saves me the trouble. Question is: If I choose to "Opt-Out" of a patch, How do I do it?

Have you ever "opted-in" to a patch before?  If so, I think Steam automatically puts you on the "opt-in" path for all future patches.  I've never found a way to "opt-out" of a specific patch at least.  Short of not going online that is.

Anyone know how to "opt out" of future "opt in" patches?

Same way you opted in, more or less. Left-click on the game, go to 'properties', open the 'betas' tab and then set the drop-down menu to 'none'.

I want to say I've tired that and it didn't work for me but now that I test it seems to be working.  Huh.  Maybe the opt-in patch has to be live for one to "opt out" of it?  Makes it a little problematic if you have an update Queued and don't catch it in time.  But it looks like I could "downgrade" back if I wanted to.

Still, thanks for the tip.  I'll keep it in mind for the future, especially if there isn't an opt-in patch out there at the time.

I'm about to opt-out to generate a playable map, and then opt back in for the AI updates. Sad it's come down to that though.
