Custom Ship Data Not Loading in MP

MP works but not with custom ships

Multiplayer seems to work but not with custom ship designs.  I tried to play with a friend earlier and it didn't work no matter who hosted, each time the game would crash or time out.  I know we didnt have this issue earlier in the week.

 

After moving all custom ship designs out of the designs folder, the multiplayer works, but only using the prefab ship designs the game creates.  Not those i spent hours making. These designs still appear to work fine in single player.

 

So there's the work around for those trying to play multiplayer but keep crashing.  Or a possible one anyway.  I hope the Devs are working on fixing this so we can use our own designs in multiplayer as well.  It's still fun to play without them, but we really want to play with our customs.

In single player the list of custom designs is showing designs that fit the available tech, but they're old versions using more space than the hull allows. These designs are buildable -- the dock cranks them out on command. These are hulls with double the weapon loads available in the final. I'd say fix that first; otherwise "cheat" designs of superships may show up.

Wonder if this is the same issue as they mentioned in the stream in regards to the custom races. Appears with that they need to include versioning in the custom races so that the game can make a check to make sure it is compatible with the current game version. Apparently stuff has changed so much that custom races made a couple game version ago, just plain don't work due to changes made in the game architecture. Guessing that same thing would be relevant to ship designs, so maybe they need to redo the custom ship file format to include game version as part of the format as well.

 

That my best guess anyway :/

All my designs are working fine in SP without overloading at this time.  I've been checking, however, the faction I'm using them with is a copied & edited version of the Terran Alliance with a different name & it was created using the in-game options.  That faction uses a racial ability that increases the amount of mass they can use on their ships.  I think it's called Dense, if I remember correctly.  So if I were playing the regular Terrans overloading might be an issue but I am not certain of that.  Again, in single player all seems fine.

 

Right now, for multiplayer I have to keep moving my designs out if I want to play with a friend.  I am not certain what would happen if I created something while playing a multiplayer game.  The issue seems to occur when loading custom ship data at the start of the session.
