Feature Request - AutoSupply Options

I'd like all my factories to default to autosupply-on. This can be dangerous, since a factory running in the red can run you out of cash in a hurry if the market shifts and you don't notice it. So this should really be an option that you can set (autosupply on by default: yes/no), and which defaults to not-set to protect the newbies.

And I'd also like to have a UI element somewhere that lets me turn off autosupply for all my factories at once, so that if the market is going crazy and I'm crashing my cash I can stop the bleeding as an emergency response before taking the time to figure out where all the cash is going.

I'm extremely hesitant to add this feature because I feel the game has enough death spirals and I don't want to add add another one players could fall into. I don't like auto-supply and I would remove it if I could. (But I can't!)

Thanks for the feedback; I hope you'll reconsider. I find the idea of playing without autosupply to be pointless micromanagement - busywork for the sake of busywork with no real decisions to be made.

I wonder if the real problem is that without Auto-Supply it's too easy to lose track of when you've run out of a necessary resource for one of your production buildings.  If the resource was somehow highlighted when you had ongoing production demands for it and were out, would that help?  I, personally, prefer to manually buy supplies, as it lets me be a bit more precise with pricing and being aware of when I'm about to spend more than I should for the output, but I'll often lose track for minutes at a time of the fact that I'm out of (say) carbon.

Some sort of indicator on the resource market that draws my attention to the carbon stockpile when I'm out and have production buildings that need it might help deal with that.

+1 to OP.

Perhaps a resource could flash (faintly) dark-red when auto-purchased.

Agree it shold be a player option (default off).

This is a great idea, and I too would also like this. Mainly due to the fact that I find it awfully difficult with how teenie the "needs resource" text is that pops up above the factories.

Essentially, there needs to be a better interface for that system, whether its OP's suggestion or otherwise. Having to manually micro it isn't a bad thing, but the current system can be exhausting. Just as bad as a death spiral due to purchasing materials too expensive is not using more inexpensive materials you can purchase to utilize your buildings to create the more expensive resources.

Just provide better feedback on buildings that are set to auto supply. Toggle some kind of icon. Or somehow display that in the market sidebar.

My concern is that if we start providing feedback on everything and auto totaling, you lose a degree of difficulty. Which might be the defining factor in competitive play. Like at some point you have to stop providing feedback and make the player take on that cognitive load. Their ability to handle that is what allows them to excel.

That said I think a basic auto supply / not auto supply icon over buildings would be a good move.

How about an option of autosupply if profitable.

why dont we just let the AI play the game, and we can just watch?

I would love that option even if I had to turn it on every game. death spirals are great for the game because they provide a victory condition in the mid game (for other people of course).

That will be the intrinsic problem with most potential solutions in this game - how much or little should a given player be punished for not paying attention.

For me I do not use autosupply, but I am hardly a master at playing this game.

As an aside it could be part of an optional rule set for, in essence, friendlier matches (i.e. more handholding).

Perhaps leave autosupply default to off and implement a button that when turned on, autosupplies everything by default?  People who want to micormanage their autosupply can be free to autosupply individual buildings, others who want to buy their supplies on the market can, and those who don't want to focus on that aspect of the game can just use the button.   Personally I'd rather be scouting around the map and seeing how to best wreak havoc on my opponents with my black market purchases than watching for oxygen shortages at my glass factory.

And the death spirals are a great teacher.  The best way to learn that food is important is to lose a game by hemorrhaging $1200 per tick.  :)

If a building not having the required resources appeared on the notification bar like buildings that are turned off do, auto supply wouldn't even be needed. I prefer to leave it off either way!
