Graphics questions

No trees? No rocks? No ambience details?

Hi guys!

First off, I am mega stoked about Ashes! Being a Sins player, I do like the meta-units concept and the fact that micro management won't be as important as the bigger scheme of things. All that sounds very promising. So today I checked out the screenshots.

Let me start by saying that I do understand that the game is in its early stages. That is all good and fine. However, being the graphics whore I am, I just have to say that while the general units look okay, I do feel like the maps are missing a lot of detail. Looking at competitors such as Company of heroes, Dawn of war, etc, these games have maps filled with all kinds of statues, trees, rock formations, etc. Of course Ashes does have a whole different scale with whole planets serving as maps. Still I think that some details on the maps would make the game look a lot better.

Why not add some huge spectacular Canyons? Deep rifts in the ground? Towering mountains? Far-stretching forests? Wide rivers? Such beautiful details would add a certain feeling of loss and maybe even pity when a planet is finally consumed.

These are just some suggestions. I simply hope that the surroundings will look a little more detailed as for me good looking maps are a very important part in any game.

All the best with Ashes!

This was my initial reaction as well.

I assume the terrain graphics will be upgraded, as the terrain looks like a game from early 2000s.

It's pre alpha, I imagine it's basically an open field ,/ sand box for testing only at the moment,

the he key concept to take away from this atm is the technology which is 64bit which hopefully means we finally have a rts fast enough to give us epic ai battles with out slow down. As mentioned it's probably a year away from useable, I still brought it though.  Tech demo was enough gb for that for me to support it,

Yes, this is very early gameplay being shown.

While I agree with the sentiment of the OP, I also feel the others are correctly stating the "Alphaness" of the game...

After all I'd prefer a bit more realism to my Galactic Conquests :)

It's actually not even alpha yet.  If you look at the screenshots, we don't even have the trees in yet.  Let alone things like ruined cities or multiple environments.

Now that I bought the game and it has moved to early beta, I am even more concerned. The landscape looks still desolate, bland and empty. Together with the unbelievably generic unit appearance this creates a boring game to look at. And that is ironic, truly ironic, with an graphics engine as powerful as this one.
