Any thoughts on who the invading or evil race might be?

Speculating while we wait for January! Throw some ideas out there.

So ladies and gents, with the dread lords gone, the korath gone and the korx out of the picture, who are the universal bad guys going to be this time around do you think?

I know the drengin and yor fill the bad guy role currently but will we have anyone that supersedes them as a bigger late game threat, and if we are in a speculating mood what type of invader or bad guy races would you like to see?

For me it'd be a race that was the opposite, only so far the opposite they didn't see the harm they were doing, I think that would be a nice twist and in this case to fit the theme of a crusade. It could be a colony of humanity that managed to hold on to their technology and was mad as hell about how they'd been treated, they were not going to take it anymore! That and of course I always enjoy void type races that are anti-life by their nature, consuming the planets they conquer, having massive dislike bonuses so they always at war but watchout if they start winning, or they could actually completely obliterate planets, as some sort of sentient galactic virus or parasitic race.

I have yet to see a game model a virus race, and always wondered how it'd play out, I've seen parasitic races before but not one that was just interested in damaging the hosts (planets or galaxy) perhaps in this case by corrupting it.

Also as I haven't read anything about the Korath in the lore, can we safely assume that modding them in when we get custom races won't conflict with any official content, as none is planned?

I assumed it was an alternate future version of the Terrans coming to bring an 'end to all things'.

It would be cool to have these Crusaders as a separate civ/race to play as well. But I hope they are strikingly different than the main Terran race. So it feels like you are playing a completely different race altogether.

Yes it would, perhaps as an unlockable for beating the main campaign? If indeed a campaign was planned :)

I do agree though any race added needs to feel like it's own race, otherwise what would the point be.

Thalan Contingency  -

According to the trailer for Galactic Civilizations III they seem to be the driving force for the attach on Humans.  As they state that the Humans are a plague.  And being that they are the last race to be added to the game (aside from expansions or DLC's) I see them as being the evil threat.

Otherwise Humans -

Same thing based on the trailer, as the other races are treating the Humans as a plague.

If your talking about a random race appearing in a special or mega event who knows ;)  Maybe the Torian Confederation lol more meat for the Drengin.

Well, it's known that at least one possible ending is one where the Yor completely dominate the universe.

So I'm thinking something could happen that could make one race super powerful.

Necrons.

For the campaign, I suspect the Drengin and Yor will start as the bad guys as the Terrans fight to re-establish themselves. That might be where the campaign ends for the base game. If not, I think you'll play as the Thalans or as splinter group of the Terrans allied with the Thalans against the Terran crusade.

There has to be a twist that leads up to the next expansion though. So something will change drastically.

the yor are clearly the good guys with thier advanced systems merely trying to defend the galaxy from the virus that is biological "life"

I wonder if I can make the invading race Murlocs and mod the ships lasers to sound like them whey they fire...

This was an interesting twist I hadn't considered the Thalans :)
