Great game, but. could use a few improvements

First, let me start by saying that I love the this game. the concept is sound, the gameplay brilliant. I have long waited for a fantasy game that lets me design my own units! Graphics are mostly irrelevant to me (and they are good enough)

But...

Why no love for two-handed swords? And why are axes by default two-handed?

It could really use more variety in the weapons department, by having proper weapon families and abilities.

As a general rule, two-handed weapon would have greater reach and power compared to one-handed ones. Greater reach would mean things like First Strike and Cleave (one handed weapons would have a harder time cleaving).

Swords are fast and nimble weapons, well balanced and versatile. Two handed sword aren't giant pieces of metal, they are fast and balanced weapons.

Axes and maces are far more unwieldy, with the center of mass being focused at the tip. This also means they strike harder (better criticals, more damage)

that and more armor variety. Even simple texture swaps could do wonders.

See, I'm trying to make an unit like this:

Or this:

And I'm dissapointed I can't.

whatever your new DLC or expansion is, I hope it adds more items for units and sovereigns.

Having played more, some more observations:

- more control for unit upgrades would be nice. I don't like it that the game offers armor upgrades, where tons of items are filed as one option, with no option to change.

Maybe I don't want to upgrade those soldier gloves? Maybe I value +5 accuracy on my troops more than +1 defense? Well, too bad, because the only way to upgrade your troop is to hit that upgrade bottun and it don't care what you want!

- mage units have no selections for weapon upgrades for most of the game. They are also underwhelming.

Maybe having mage units be half the size, but giving them more power? Or some more spells?

The techs unlock more weapons.  There are axes, two handed swords, two handed axes, spears, maces, etc.  There is a set of armor in the game similar to what you posted.
