Orkulus Starbase Jump

Hi,

i am new at Sins and i today o tried the Vasari. I have read this:

"As the Vasari Rebels, the Orkulus gains the unique ability to be upgraded with Phase Engines. This allows it to jump to other gravity wells just like any other ship."

at https://www.sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Orkulus_Star_Base

But when i tried to jump with the starbase into a enemy gravity, it doent worked. Could anyone tell me why it does not work?

The wiki is a bit out of date on some things. The Vasari Rebels Starbases used to be like that but they were too powerful in multiplayer. Now they can only jump between planets with "Phase Stabalizer Nodes", themselves very useful things that let you jump between any connected planets. You can create these nodes on your planets by building a phase stabalizer structure, and you can use your superweapon the Kostura cannon to create them at enemy planets. The Antorak Marauder capitalship as well as your starbases can also get abilities to create them temporarily.

thx for the explanation. how can the kostura cannon create those nodes?

since which patch orkulus starbase cant jump into enemy gravity?

The Kostura Cannon does two things:

  1. Damages orbital structures around the targeted planet and stuns them for a short period of time
  2. Creates a Phase stabilizer node at the targeted planet for a short period of time, allowing ships to phase jump there from any other planet with a phase stabilizer node

Phase stabilizer nodes allow Vasari ships to bypass phase lanes, jumping FROM any planet with a phase stabilizer node TO any planet with a phase stabilizer node.

Phase stabilizer nodes can be created using the following:

  • The Phase Stabilizer tactical structure
  • The Kostura Cannon (as discussed above)
  • The Vasari Loyalist Titan, the Vorastra, can spawn a permanent phase stabilizer node every 10-20 minutes (based on the Titan's Spawn Phase Stabilizer ability rank)
  • The Antorak Marauder can temporarily turn ITSELF into a mobile phase stabilizer node with its level-6 ability
  • Vasari starbases can be upgraded to temporarily turn themselves into phase stabilizer nodes (requires research; each starbase must also be upgraded to acquire this ability)

As GoaFan indicated, the Vasari Rebel starbases used to be able to make phase jumps like normal ships once the ability to do so (Starbase Mobilization) was researched, but this proved to be downright overpowered: players could rush to Starbase Mobilization, pump out starbases in defended locations and blitz target systems with starbases, one after another. Often, the defending player would incur such massive losses fighting one starbase that it became impossible to fight subsequent waves. It was such a nuisance that Vasari Rebels were often banned from competitive play.

At first, the devs tried moving Starbase Mobilization to the end of the Civilian tree (where it currently is); that didn't work. The devs also tried temporarily debuffing Vasari starbases when they arrived in the target gravity well; that didn't work either.

Then, in patch 1.5, they changed the ability: Starbases can now jump ONLY between active phase stabilizer nodes. That fixed the problem, because there are few ways besides the Kostura Cannon and the Antorak Marauder to secure phase lanes into enemy territory. It was, in my opinion, an elegant fix.

Before the final fix they also hardcoded it to not let a starbase jump to any gravity well wich already has a friendly starbase in it. which kinda sucks if you want to move them through a star. (also sucks because it ruined my plans for starbase-like ships)
