Colonization

Are we supposed to be able to colonize a planet in this Alpha?  If so, I don't know how, and the command list for colony ships doesn't tell me?

I've haven't had any problems making my colony ship, loading it with people and parking it on a habitable planet...  Made about 15 colonies last game, and invaded 4. So that works pretty much like Galciv2. Hope that helps

Okay.  I just colonized a planet.  I guess I was looking for a "colonize command" in the list of choices and only had visited uninhabitable worlds before.  Just now I was able to land on a "habitable" world.  I had GC I, but never had GC II (not sure how I missed that.)

Go back and get it. Not only is it a fantastic game that absolutely stands up, but it will also help you make sense of the Alpha of GalCiv III which has no tutorial and inconsistent tool-tips.

So, we are touting GC2 as the tutorial for GC3.  Interesting tactic.

I do agree, though.  If you like GC1 and are interested in GC3, it is very probably worthwhile to get a copy of GC2.  There is a lot of fun to be had there while waiting for the Alpha developers to tell us it is okay to think that GC3 is fun, too.  (They are so strict!!)

Now that was FUNNY.  Actually have had fewer crashes (read none) in this alpha than in some beta's I've been involved in.  Maybe I'm not working hard enough, LOL.

Most of the people in the alpha are long-time fans of GC2, even GC1. Pointing the ones that are new to the series to GC2 helps everyone by giving us a common frame of reference when discussing new things, changed things, things that we think were better off *not* being changed, etc. There's a lot of reference to the Civ series and other strategy games, but GC2 is the closest analog to what GC3 will eventually be.

GC2 even on sale on steam atm if you don't have it yet.

Okay, you twisted my arm, LOL.  Besides, for five bucks you can't go wrong--and includes all of everything.  Maybe it will help me with this Alpha!

WOW!  And I'm not even talking about GC III.  (I promise to stay on message in the future).  My WOW is about GC II that I just got, and more specifically about the TUTORIALS!  I am a great believer in good tutorials for games, and the set with GC II is very impressive.  Now, on subject, I know that "tutorials" are something for late beta testing, I would just make the point to make the GC III tutorials at least equal what you did earlier!

Play a game on suicidal, that's the best tutorial there is.

PR, how can you be so cruel. Better to start at an easier level that isn't so sadistically hard for someone new to the mechanics.

Losing is the world's best motivator :3

Honestly, Suicidal isn't that hard, you just need to maximize your production. Lower difficulties, even for lower players are sorta' insultingly-easy in my opinion.

Understanding why you loose is the best motivator.
