Wow that's impressive detailing MrStarTrek! The lighting on the engine nacelles looks great too, I haven't figured out how to change light colour yet...

Thanks Nastytang, and sure, these are the colours:

Ocean Inverted also looks good!

Guys! Fantastic stuff!

Love the BSG stuff especially, nice use of color!

For myself, I've published my very first Voiced Video. This video goes over my previously shown ship set called FTH, but now fleshed out with another 5-10 designs, as well as a brief look at the custom race that will go with it! Constructive feedback always appreciated, especially since this is my first real recording. If you like, please subscribe!

These and many more will be available in Gauntlet's Race Mod SOON!

You can learn more about the Gauntlet's Race Mod here!

I'm making some laser weapon based ships, and this is my medium-sized one, the exodus, from above/the rear. I'm posting it like this because of the shield effects. I don't know what's going on there.

BTW, is there a way of forcing the shield effects on in the designer, or when looking at a starship? (It'd be a lot easier to show them all in that case)

I've been unable to group two parts into one saved part. Or just grouping them together. I made a video of what I am doing. Can you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Or is it a bug?

It's pretty obvious, both of your parts have been connected to the center cube instead of each other. Because of this, both of those half-circles are separate parts and are in no way connected to each other. That translucent center start cube is ment for you to build your first piece and build off of that first piece not the cube itself unless you want to build several separate ships as one ship design.(Such as a group of 3 tiny fighters placed like a squadron as a small ship size.)

I suggest you build a solid cube over the starter cube and offset it a bit upwards(y-axis) and work off of that if you want to group the object or save it as a custom part.

Another thing you should know about ship designer is that saving a design with mirrored parts will only save the original side(not the mirrored side), you'll have to manually reshape it(a wing for example) to match the one on the other side.

I know all this. I've tried grouping them when they've been placed on other ship parts. I was using a blank schematic to illustrate the problem. Also if you notice they are not mirrored via the mirroring button. They are two separate parts . If you think I'm incorrect and are willing please do try and see if you can do it and then tell me how. : )

I don't think you understand,  in the demonstration video you've shown above 2 mistakes where the first was after creating the first half circle, is that you chose to spawn the second half circle attached to the translucent starter cube instead of as an attachment of the first half circle.
Making it a separate object entirely from your first half circle, remember parts will not connect together from the translucent starter cube. Every part connected to the translucent starter cube is a base part and every base part is a separate object. As any base part connected to the translucent starter cube will not group together or be able to be made a custom part with other bases parts or anything connected to other base parts.
The second mistake you made was when selecting the grouping to make a custom parts is that you selected the parts from left to right. If you followed the steps I provided above and attach a part to the base part it works like a chain where the base part should always be at the end of the chain as all the other links are connected to it in some way. Always select the part from right to left where the very base part of your ship(usually the most left-hand part) should be the last thing selected to have all the parts linked together to the base that will become the center pivot of the part when saved as a custom part.

As for mirroring, I didn't say you used it in your video I was merely giving you a tip.

Perhaps I'll make a video tutorial for tips on how to properly use the ship designer in the future.

Yea, I'll get to work on it as soon as I'm done with my Lavendarian fleet ship set.

Also you seem to be the Go2Guy for accurate Star Trek replicas, any chance you could make the Cerberus Class?

It's my favorite Star Trek ship, a cousin to the Prometheus Class warship.

I don`t know about such site, but it rather easy to send design files to other players. (an yes, design, i shou earlier, as you can see inspirited by B5, even gravitation module of ship animated as it was on Earth Alliance ships.).

Once the Steam Workshop is up and available, I and many others will be sharing designs there.

In the meantime, here is my latest, plus I've made some tutorials.

Furthermore, I now have a 3-part tutorial on ship designing that you may find useful!

supposedly we're getting Steam Workshop integration in the next major patch, and presumably we'll be able to upload our ship designs there- I just wish we could set the ships the Carrier modules actually carry, because then I could use them more without spoiling my themes.

anyway, I've been working on some additional classes and such- I'll post 'em later today.
