Different map styles?

So I was recently playing AI Wars, and I was really interested in the tons of options for map generation, letting you have quadrants like X, tree strcutue links, clusters, and so on.

One of the things I always hated about SoaSE maps was that there is rarely great chokepoints where you actually can stop an invasion, sort of how mountain passes work in other games, because at best I will see a setup where if I manage to reach said planets, I can have four chokepoints into my territory, due to the abundance of phase lanes.

I even tried with the map generator, lowering the lane chance and the other one, but it left me with all planets with only one connection, rather than my ideal of clusters with several connections, but with very few lines linking to other clusters (Similar to how Endless Space did constellations).

I like to feel like there are natural borders where expansion might stop, just like water and mountain ranges play in say Elemental, you CAN expand past them, but you now have the subcontinent taken and a fort in the one land bridge to the main area, so your empire is safe.

Or in Civilization, I once started in Northern Africa, and I rushed towards Egypt to cut the entrance from anyone else, and I defeated my only companion in there and the continent was mine.

So my question is, am I the only one that feel that aside from the random options we have now, like number of planets and stars, we should get map styles? Because I CAN use the Galaxy Forge, but then I know the map already, and all the ones other make are psychotic messes of lines to my tastes. :S

Well, you can add some random elements in galaxy forge. You can use random planet lists so you don't know what planets you'll find, and you can even set random chances for planets and phase lanes to appear. Granted, you'll need to have a guaranteed path from all the home worlds to each other, but if you really used this feature you might not be able to count on the map being a certain way every time.
