Who else just found out how Thalan actually looked?

While the trailer was a massive excitement to me indeed, I felt like the most shocking reveal is that Thalans were not what we saw in the comms in GalCiv 2, where I pictured them as their heads suspended and those upper arms curving back down and being more of a spider thing.

Come in the trailer, and Thalans are toned humanoids with arms in their head. My life has been a lie. :P

Next thing we know, the Snathi are octopus like below the picture frame.

I saw your subject and wanted to throw in a snark about Snathi ... but you beat me to the punch :P

I thought about for awhile making a fake joke GalCiv III annoucement, giving it the subtitle 'RISE OF THE SNATHI' wielding a scary, glowing acorn or somesuch XD

I had assumed the arms were functional as far as body support and mobilization. I've always thought of Thalans as similar to Acklays from Star Wars.

That looks more like what I had in mind too, a short-ish spider like thing, where the head arms were in fact the legs as they bent around.

Turns out they are tall dudes.

I have this same feeling with the Boron from X, I cannot decided if they are tiny squids sitting on rocks, or thats their heads and theres a body underneath. :P

The cannon had explained a good reason why all the species in the galaxy was humanoid in form, and not something really alien by our standards. However, the Thalans were described as not fitting that pattern, so I was hoping that they were some how odd, like maybe having their raised arms being really their legs or something like that. Maybe they were evolved spiders or something, but instead we got a weirder looking humanoid creature, not an weird looking alien.

What is that lore piece? I know of the Mirthilar and how its responsible for the Altarians, but what's the explanation for the others?

I am also hoping that the Arceans no longer look like alien Benjamin Franklin.

Yeah, I was also a little disappointed. Primarily because it contradicts what was said about the look of the Thalan. From the Xeno Anthropology tech in the Thalan tech tree:

"The galaxy is populated by a series of humanoidic species. Only the Thalan break from this pattern with its multiple appendages."

Still, it was good to finally see more of the races, instead of only the upper part of their torsos.

From the same tech I quoted above:

"The different humanoids of the galaxy are remarkably similar in terms of what they are interested in, what their goals are, and what influences them. It is our belief that this is caused by the direct influence of the Precursor civilization who manifested themselves as humanoids."
