[Experimental] More than 2Gb of memory for Rebellion

Test run

I am making this little test.

Download the explorer suite here

http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php

then open the Rebellion.exe (make a backup copy first) with CFF explorer.

go to "Nt Headers"

go to "File Header"

select "Characteristics" line, click on "click here" and select "app can handle >2gb address space".

Save and overwrite.

I think memory is increased only up to 4gb. but it should still be a great help for those huge mods out there like "Sins of a Galactic Empire".

That just sounds like LAA (Large Address Aware) which has been discussed numerous times over the years. This is just linker flag (/LARGEADDRESSAWARE option) which would normally be set when an executable is compiled. The devs said that turning on the LAA flag may introduce instability, hence why it isn't used:- see https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/407088/page/2/#3187149

The experience from forum members with LAA seems to be mixed  - some get it to work fine, while others find that it causes crashes.

Having said that I've never hit the memory limit while playing SoGE on Rebellion.

ah, and here I thought I was being overly smart :P

and newhorizons did not mention that this LAA subject has come up atleast once a year since sins release, and has managed to get drummed back into the ground each time with a majority of users not benifiting from it.

this is the only subject that tends to get hammered into the ground due to inconsistant results. keep trying, and do not forget that search is your friend in that it can prevent you making discouraging and often repeated suggestions.

You have already contributed a lot but some things have already been kicked around so much that some of us that been here since the beginning kind of get a little whiny about. Don't worry about it too much. As long as you don't start harping on it being the best thing since sliced bread we are pretty cool about it.
