GOTM1: Win by Spell of Making as Pariden [This is a friendly contest ... all are welcome to play]

GOTM1: Win by Spell of Making as Pariden [This is a friendly contest ... all are welcome to play]

A few of us would like to try a GAME-OF-THE-MONTH format where we all play the same game, share experiences, strategies, have some fun, and see who can win the victory condition by the earliest turn.  The ground rules are:

- play by honor system (no cheats)

- do not use pioneer-bank exploit

- do not load from autosave unless you crash

We will try different factions, victory conditions, map types, difficulty levels, etc.  The first game is outlined in screenshots below:  Pariden, Spell of Making, Medium Defaults, 5 Opponents, Hard/Hard.

Post your end game screen or video when finished.

SAVED GAME is here:

Awesome.  Congratz!  I also went for Trade Treaties and then switched over to beeline for Book of Mastery, but you make a good point about scouting to find the other opponents sooner.  I should have done that.  Did you make Procipinee a Commander?  Maybe I should have done that too.

Yes, I made both Procipinee and my first champion a commander. I first took Road Building with one of them and after that I focused on Lore for both.

I noticed that in your endgame screenshots Procipinee has artifacts. Although I played very sloppy at the end, I did sell and trade everything I had in exchange for money, which I then used to rush buy (a couple of turns worth of) the towers.

I don't know if it was necessary but I also voluntarily payed tribute to my neighbours when I started building the towers.

Does anybody else have a game they'd like to turn in or report on here?  I'll be posting our next game-of-the-month later today.

No sorry, Trojasmic, I was disheartened after my first try and couldn't find the time to try again.

Maybe a little bit of my own opinion here: If the challenge would be easier it would attract more casual players like me. Of course that would be boring for veterans like you and those other players here, but if you could do an easy and a hard challenge per month?

Make more challenges on different difficulties to appease more to more people, if you get where i'm coming from here.

Finished it.

Took a little longer than some of the guys :-(

Pretty uneventful. Didn't lose any cities to monsters or opponents. Lost one troop unit total in battles.

Magnar attacked with 6 or 7 big stacks (8 units each) once I was building the towers but Procipinee blew them apart (with a little help from her custom warhammer stacks, which were up at level 10 by then).

Played it as a normal game, so levelled up Procipinee as a mage. If I played it again, knowing that there were lots of good city locations and that the opponents would pretty much ignore you for the whole game then I could probably shave off quite a bit of time by researching less military techs and having Procipinee as an administrator generating research and money.

Gonna have a look at GOTM2 now :-)

Nice job Justamo!  I was thinking the same thing about the AI.  I was surprised about how passive it was in this game.  I hope Brad/Derek/Stardock people give these games a try.  It would be fun to see what the "experts" have to say.

I kept running into a glitch where the fog of war would lift from the whole map on a certain turn.  I disabled pedestrians to see if that would help the performance but it didn't.  Beyond a few, rare crashes, I've never had issues with this game before.  I reloaded to auto-save a few times (not to 'redo' anything as I reloaded immediately when the glitch happened at the beginning of the turn, and even made the same trade with Irane that I made initially), but it kept happening.

However, after seeing the whole map, I could tell Gilden would probably kill everyone.  So I don't think I stood much of a chance.

The Inelectable Vision (or whatever it's called) spell reveals the whole map.  The AI is not meant to be able to cast it, but sometimes it does.  It is  a bit silly because on higher difficulty levels it has the AIFogOfWar cheat that allows it to see the whole map anyway.

Won turn 161 after making queenie mage so i could get a grasp of how kingdom summons work. I find it strange that empire get an awesome aoespell with their skellies but kingdom only get what a warrior. Unlocked tech turn 120 witch would have been faster if i took a detour for some foodskills ie lvl4 conclaves or made her a commander for bonusresearch. Should really have made a detour for spellbooks since i didnt get a earth hero for production on thoose towers. Made 4 conclaves and a town. Dont know if the bonusfood helped so probably should have made all conclaves.

For fun tried I tried to troll yithril with a deadly quest:

Sadly that dragon did nothing to him.....
